Olango Wildlife Sanctuary is a major refueling station for approximately 40,000 migratory birds. It supports the largest concentration of migratory birds found so far in the Philippines. The Philippine Dept of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has been tasked to protect and manage the area. A sanctuary office has been established in the area and serves as a jump-off point for bird watching in the reserve.The goal is to harmonize Eco-tourism and biodiversity conservation in Olango Island Wildlife Sanctuary. Providing access to healthcare and sanitation in order to keep the population thriving, is key. At VIN we want to create awareness in localcommunities by teaching and educating rural communities as well as facilitating first-hand medical care. Nepal faces many challengeswhen it comes to public health. In ruralcommunities, the government offers very few facilities to support the health of its people. LOGEMENT & NOURRITURE

Volunteers stay with the host family/hostel identified by VIN. The living conditions at the host family/ hostel are simple and basic. Male and female volunteers will share the same living area but have separate sleeping rooms. The volunteers sleep on simple beds/mattresses. Please bring your sleeping bag. The food will be provided in Nepali standard i.e. dal Bhat (rice, lentil soup, vegetables, pickle, eggs).

SITUATION

VIN works in three different districts Kathmandu, Nuwakot, and Okhaldhunga are the three districts where VIN works. If you arrive early or wish to stay in Nepal after your volunteer period, VIN offers weekend travel tours to Chitwan Jungle Safari, Pokhara, and Nagarkot at reasonable prices.

Project backgroundThe handicapped children and youths in the community endure unbearable suffering because of the nature of the cultural practices and the attitude of community members. Mental retardation is stigmatized and any child with such handicapped is either hidden at home or kept to look after their animals.Poroko special school is the only such school in the larger Trans-Mara region. It is located in the Maasai country side. The school was established to address the plight of the handicapped among the Maasai community. The school thus will go a long way in addressing this crucial problem. The school at the moment has a total of 72 students and seven teachers and seven support staff. 50 students are in residence in the school. The main objective of the school is to equip the mentally handicapped in the area of operation with life skills and get employed in other sectors with technical qualification to own their own small industries and hence create their own employment and be self-reliantProject activitiesNurturing and developing the skills and talents of children with mental disability and making the community aware of their needs and how well they can be integrated into the development spectrum of the community.

In the organic farm, they have 25 different kinds of vegetables and over more than 200 different herbs in the area. They also have a cow and a buffalo, so they can offer fresh milk. During the season they have a small project of having beekeeping, at that volunteers are able to get pure honey.Adhering to the famous proverb Return to Nature they are on a mission to make their self and others feel healthy through chemical produce. As a farmer they believe that is it essential what they produce should be beneficial to human health. Therefore, being chemical free is vitally important.

PROJECT ACTIVITIES : Project Personnel are looking for volunteers working on a range of different projects, this includes:-During season time especially summer volunteers will be building and maintaining small bee and shiitake mushroom farms.-Volunteers can organize environment awareness programs with villagers and school children.-Volunteers can organize a formal education for children and women on Saturday or afternoon.-Helping to both plant and harvest a range of different seasonable herbs, fruits, and vegetables. Such as Tomato, Potato, mustard, Cauliflower, and many more.-During volunteers free time they can help project owners with photography for their official website and online marketing for their farm, homestay, and retreat. -Volunteers are be doing support in Administration Activities.Note – Volunteers will work between 3-5 hours per day (5 days per week).VOLUNTEER TASK : The different tasks that our volunteers can help with include:-Daily maintenance of the bee and shiitake mushroom farms. This could also include harvesting providing it is the correct season. -Volunteers can school for 2 to 3 hours during the afternoon time to provide an educational awareness program to children.-They need farmhands to cut and carry grass, plant, cut, and collect herbs, plow the field, weeding, water herbs, vegetables, and fruit trees, and other farm-like chores such as milking cows.-Helping to prepare and cook food for 3 daily organic meals.-Becoming involved with the community is also important as you will be able to interact with children of host family and other local children in the community which helps with their speaking skills in English Language.-Participate in Yoga and meditation classes early morning and evening.If volunteers want to run an awareness program out of the village then they need to bear the cost by themselves.

Your food and accommodation are arranged in a host family they will have to share a room with volunteers of other nationalities joining the same program. Host father and his family will be staying along with you. All accommodations have running water, electricity, and all basic amenities available. The accommodations have hot water showers for winters and Wi-Fi internet is available. The host family will provide you with 3 freshly harvested organic vegetarian and vegan meals per day snacks according to the host family schedule. Volunteers can join in yoga/meditation, and mountain hiking with a chance to view Himalayan peaks, an unpolluted environment, and living conditions.

The organic farm is located 45km southeast of Kathmandu, at more than 2100 meters above sea level, living in a remote small village on the edge of the Mahabharat mountain range.

Surprisingly after supporting her family in various ways she is mostly not consulted and involved in household decision making. SITUATION

The project site is Ruchi campus and the nearby Bandh village (1 km) in Solan district. It is 30 km from Kalka and 70 km from Chandigarh. The village is small with 35 families.Self organized city tours and excursions. Old Sikh and Hindu temples in the near vicinity can be visited. Nearby Kasauli town is another hill station as a tourist attraction. A visit to Shimla will offer an opportunity to see high Himalayan Mountains.

The hearing loss can affect a childs development of receptive and expressive communication skills. The language deficit causes learning problems that result in reduced academic achievement. Communication difficulties often lead to social isolation and low self-esteem. Different tools and methodologies are used by organizations to conduct formaland informal teaching and to help such children integrate into mainstream life through inclusion.The Info-sheet will have more information regarding the individual projects with schedules, and activities. Work schedule for volunteers working in Speech and Hearing impaired children teaching project includes any of the following activities: Class room teaching: Spoken and written English, Mathematics, Geography, etc. Extra-curricular activities: Sports, Games, Drawing, etc. Assist in Computer reporting work, Photo/video documentation Impart training to children on life skills, health and personal hygieneA creative approach to work is useful and you will have the opportunity to initiate new mini projects or activities. Accommodation: You could be staying with local families near to the project. You could be sharing rooms with 2-3 volunteers or staying on your own. Many NGOs and nonprofits in India are often understaffed and overstretched in terms of human resources. The grassroots organizations in particular, often lack the funds to dedicate personnel for knowledge management. Although well versed in the vernacular of the region and experts in their own field of work, staffs in many NGOs and nonprofits finds it quite challenging to document their activities in English. Yet this knowledge management process is an integral function of any organization.Volunteers interested in this field of work will be involved in: Designing and creating content for the organizations offline and online communication platforms. This may include annual reports, brochures, blog articles, website content, social media platforms, press releases among others. Research, either through primary or secondary data collection, on impact of program implementation, feasibility of program action plans etc., as per the needs of the organization. Documentation: this may include report writing, putting in place documentation procedures, recording organizational program activities, among others.

Providing access to healthcare and sanitation in order to keep the population thriving is key. At VIN we want to create awareness in local communities by teaching and educating rural communities as well as facilitating first hand medical care. Nepal faces many challenges when it comes to public health. In the rural communities the government offers very few facilities to support the health of its people. With illiteracy and poverty levels being high, manypeople do not have the means to changetheir health, sanitation, and hygiene practices and remain unaware of the major health risks and how to minimise them.Daily ActivitiesThe Medical Care Volunteer will spend one day in the Kavresthali Health Clinic taking blood pressure and monitor other vital functions. Note: Volunteers will get a chance to take part on Friday in cultural dance activities which will cost an extra. ORIENTATIONVolunteers will stay 3 days in the volunteer house for the orientation and 2 days of Nepali lessons. LOGEMENT & NOURRITURE

Your food and accommodation are arranged in a host family they will have to share a room with volunteers of other nationalities joining the same program. Host father and his family will be staying along with you. All accommodations have running water, electricity, and all basic amenities available. The accommodations have hot water showers for winters and Wi-Fi internet is available. The host family will provide you with 3 freshly harvested organic vegetarian and vegan meals per day snacks according to the host family schedule.

SITUATION

The community is made up of new people from the other side of the country and by tharu local people. Volunteers can observe local festivals and the culture of tharu people living here with their own cultural foundation. The Chitwan National Park is 6KM far from your Host Family. It will take 1 and half an hours walking to National Park.On Friday and Saturday nights, volunteers usually travel to Naranghat which is a famous area to do sightseeing in Chitwan valley like Devghat, Kalika Temple, CG Temple, and so on. On the weekends volunteers usually head out to Chitwan National Park to do a Safari trip, Lumbini (birthplace of Gautam Buddha) to the beautiful town of Pokhara and Kathmandu for sightseeing.

Volunteers must be 18 years or older at the time of joining the project. You need to have an open mind and a flexible attitude for working in a new and different environment. The volunteer should bring energy and enthusiasm to make a difference. Participants must be fit and healthy at the time of joining the program. For evenings and early mornings, a heavy woolen sweater or a padded anorak or jacket will be needed. From April i to September only light clothes, preferably cotton, are needed in Kathmandu. Covid-19 has challenged our usual way of doing business and our dependency on digital technology is all time high. Having a digital footprint is no more a desire but a necessity for organizations. We have witnessed how people and organizations have used social media as a strong platform for awareness, networking, shopping, education, etc. We aim to introduce and empower children on digital media in a few select NFE centres. Covid pandemic had increased demand of smart phones for a living and online classes for children. However, due to lack of knowledge these phones are still underutilized. We expect volunteers to educate children and parents on use of these digital devices to optimize their performance.

The school wants the volunteers to help improve on the pronunciation, grammar and digital education of kids along with other lessons. Volunteers can impart information and educate children on various issues like:New normal way of life post COVID pandemic.Basic reading, writing and speaking English lessons.Personality development, communication skills, creative interests.Child rights, protection policy, Good touch, Bad touch, Gender equality, Respecting women, active citizenship etc.Teenage life, adulthood, puberty, drug abuse, Violence, student life career guidance.Digital education and responsible use of gadgets.

Accommodation: Basic, simple, safe and amp; clean accommodation will be provided either at host family or RUCHI campus on sharing basis (Twin or triple) with common toilets and bath.Food: Food offered will be simple authentic Indian vegetarian and freshly cooked. Three meals a day will be served. Assistance while cooking is desired and self cooking can be organized by volunteers.

SITUATION

The project site is Ruchi campus and the nearby Bandh village (1 km) in Solan district. It is 30 km from Kalka and 70 km from Chandigarh. The village is small with 35 families.Self organized city tours and excursions. Old Sikh and Hindu temples in the near vicinity can be visited. Nearby Kasauli town is another hill station as a tourist attraction. A visit to Shimla will offer an opportunity to see high Himalayan Mountains.

Sometimes, projects provide accommodation for the volunteers.
