Since many years YAP Italy organise workcamps in Roiate in cooperation with the town hall and an NGO called Sentiero Verde (Green Footpath). Roiate is a small isolated and picturesque village, about 60 km from Rome, surrounded by the natural park of Aniene river. There are some ancient ruins in the park: this territory has been inhabited since the pre-Roman era and you can still observe pieces of polygonal walls (aka Cyclopean masonry ) built in the Iron Age. In the Middle Age, Roiate fell under control of the monastery of Subiaco and, according to the legend, Saint Benedict from Norcia left his mark on a stone nearby while lying on it. Ever since the IV century a church and then a convent were built to preserve this stone. The church, devoted to Saint Benedict himself, still exists. Rich natural, cultural and historical heritage ensures the constant interest of pilgrims and hikers in visiting this area thanks to several trekking footpaths across the natural park. The workcamp is organised with Roiate Municipality and Sentiero Verde a non profit organisation that since 30 years deals with trekking and ecotourism in Lathium region, creates different extra urban and urban footpaths, organises training courses for mountain guides, promotes sustainable tourism and local development of territory through hiking. Thanks to the previous workcamps, Sentiero Verde has already restored a part of footpath of Roiate, it s time to make a next step

TRAVAIL

Volunteers will be involved in outdoor activities such as cleaning and maintenance of the path, cleaning and maintenance of old fountains and ruins, signals and fences restoring, garbage removing, etc Volunteers will be working 6-7 hours per day under the supervision of local technical leader. Be prepared for physical work and hiking mountain paths every day Volunteers will also have the chance to meet the local community, participating in meetings and events and helping Sentiero Verde in hiking events. This workcamp is recommended for those who love nature, enjoy working outdoors, taking care of the environment and walking a lot. You must have a suitable mountain equipment: trekking shoes, backpack, windbreaker and raincoat, hat, working gloves, flashlight (preferably frontal), water bottle.

LOGEMENT & NOURRITURE

You must bring your sleeping bag and a mat. Budget for the food is provided. The volunteers will go shopping, cook and clean as a team.

PARTENAIRE

Since many years now we offer this successful workcamp together with the protestant community center Petrusgemeinde . The international volunteers are invited to the Asylum Centre for two weeks to take part in the daily life of the refugees. In the study part of the camp, we want to inform about the situation of refugees in Germany and Europe, as well as the current developments in the area of Asylum-policies. We want you to get in contact with the residents of the Asylum Centre so that we can learn about their stories, difficulties and perspectives. The Asylum Centres for asylum seekers in Hessen are located at the edge of the city Giessen. There are currently around 600 asylum-seekers hosted in former army barracks. The refugees are in Germany because of various reasons, e.g. political, ethnic and religious persecution or poverty. Usually they stay at the facility for few months until a decision has been made about their application. Sometimes they are sent to other centers or to other safe countries where they entered the European Union, or to their countries of origin. Most of the people living in the Asylum Centres in Giessen are from Turkey, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Eritrea and Balkan countries: Young men, women, children and older people. The asylum seekers live in simple conditions and are not allowed to work or leave the district in which they live. Their permission to stay in Germany often is limited and so is their contact with the locals living in the city.

TRAVAIL

Together with the refugees we want to organize common activities, where the women and children are taken into consideration. In addition, our goal is to get in contact with the young members of the local protestant church to raise greater awareness for the refugees and to break the isolation of the refugees. We will prepare contact with students of the university that are willing to take care of the medical issues of the refugees and to pursue the legal issues of the asylum law. We will also get in contact with students of the University who medicate people without legal status. We especially invite volunteers to participate, who are able to speak Turkish, Arabic or Farsi. Besides organizing common activities with the refugees, we plan to construct some furniture made from old palettes together. They can be used outside, and will be nucleus of a meeting point of the inhabitants of the center.

LOGEMENT & NOURRITURE

The workcamp will be hosted by a local protestant church which is already involved in working with the refugees. The premises of the church are plentiful and volunteers will have a lot of space for sleeping, cooking, dining, relaxing, and for indoor and outdoor activities.

SITUATION

There are plenty of possibilities for leisure time activities: playing football or caning as well as possibilities to visit some other cities. (e.g. Marburg, Frankfurt or Heidelberg).

BESOIN SPÉCIAL

A motivation letter should be send together with the application. After registration, we require a self-declaration concerning the children and youth protection.

Project overview-Epanga Primary School was founded in 1928, by community members who valued education after being challenged by the Missionaries who had settled at Kima Mission Station. -It is a two-streamed mixed primary school. It is thus an old educational institution which without doubt, has for decades positively contributed to the general development of the people of this community and beyond. -It is a bridge of hope many have crossed to make the entire society to be what it looks like today and to that effect, we find it quite abnormal to just watch it go down to ruins as History and the future generations may judge us harshly in the name of justice.-The school buildings which sprung up rapidly in a feat to run away from temporary and semi-permanent structures in 1970 s were poorly planned and the workmanship was very much wanting. The ratio of the mixture of sand and cement was so poor that within 19 years, most of the buildings had become so risky for habitation. One of the blocks in March 2005 was heavily brought down by storms; thank God children were not in school then. The Ministry of Public Health moved swiftly and condemned all the 15 classrooms in March 2005.-From March 2005, a lot of effort has been made by the community members and very many other stakeholders to provide classrooms for the children. We have got a lot of support from the Government through CDF (Constituency Development Fund). The Ministry of Education and Luanda Town Coun

It brings together enthusiastic people in an effort to restore wooden buildings that lacked cultural heritage object status. Volunteers carefully take away old paint, clean the wood, replace shabby decorations and in the end give the house a new colour. That helps to make local people believe that with their own hands they can make the city more beautiful and nice to live in. All restoration activities are made by volunteers only with help from sponsors and fundraising.

Every year many people, with different age and religious, cultural, political background, come to Agape to discuss and to be challenged, to get to know themselves and each other and to exchange experiences around a particular theme. Agape was built after the SecondWorld War as a sign of hope and reconciliation between people, thanks to the voluntary work of many young men and women. The primary goal, on which the work of the second group will be based, is introducing new forms of expression, graffiti art and spreading popular culture through interaction with young people. Scoured by Ice Age glaciers, the dramatic east coast boasts long, narrow fjords with steep sides and jagged peaks which contrast with inland fertile farmlands. Natural harbours depict postcard-like fishing villages and seemingly never-ending roads cross the region, providing beautiful views. Fjaroabyggo is an association of villages in the Eastern fjords of Iceland. It includes the towns of Eskifjorour, Faskruosfjorour, Mjoifjorour, Neskaupstaour, Reyoarfjorour, Breiodalsvik and Stoovarfjorour, all tiny fishing villages with steep mountains towering just behind the houses. In this area you will see some of the features that make Iceland a unique place in the world: spectacular fjords with a rich sea life, a great variety of birdlife and countless breathtaking hiking paths. You will explore the area during your stay in the east. Additional information: There is an extra participation fee of 450 euros for this workcamp. The fee includes the trip from Reykjavik to Stodvarfjordur and back again which is almost 1,400 km in total and takes 2 full days (the first day of the camp and the last one). On the way to the camp, we will drive through the south to the east of the island. After the camp, we will drive through the north and west to Reykjavik (if road conditions are favourable). This trip includes several stops where you will discover unique Icelandic sights, such as glacial lagoons, waterfalls, volcanic and geothermal areas, glaciers, lava fields, hot-springs, rhyolite mountain ranges, steam-vents or even icebergs.

TRAVAIL

Volunteers will have environmental tasks in different areas in Fjardabyggd, for example cleaning the coastline, planting trees and flowers, taking down old fences, removing lupines or other plants and fixing hiking paths. Since it is always nice to try new and different dishes, volunteers are encouraged to bring along their favourite recipes from homePlease keep in mind that usually we have around 20 to 25 international volunteers in the house at the same time

There is a free entrance to the local swimming pool from the middle of June until the middle of September.WF Iceland will organise reasonably-priced weekend excursions to some of the most popular, beautiful areas and natural wonders that Iceland has to offer.
