Nature conservation is a project focusing to the human actions directed towards maintaining the integrity and balance of the ecosystems and biodiversity. The end results is on preventing or correcting the damages the ecosystems suffer due to human activities. It is a fact that, human actions may only be enabled after a general awareness is raised about the ecological impact of human activities. It then translates into both individual and collective actions in many human activity fields that have an impact on nature, such as: Agriculture; Forests exploitation; Farming; Hunting and fishing; Water and waste management etc. In each of these fields, conservation programs strive to limit the negative impacts on nature or to correct them. The concept of nature conservation is built on a reasoned management of resources whereas the preservation concept works towards the protection of sensitive natural ecosystems against any human damage.

In an education institution set up, it is normal to find a number of student who are known as slow learners. A slow learner is not a diagnostic category, it is a term people use to describe a student who has the ability to learn necessary academic skills, but at rate and depth below average same age peers. In order to grasp new concepts, a slow learner needs more time, more repetition, and often more resources from teachers to be successful. Reasoning skills are typically delayed, which makes new concepts difficult to learn. A slow learner has traditionally been identified as anyone with a Full Scale IQ one standard deviation below the mean but not as low as two standard deviations below the mean. Remedial education project is an initiative intending to assist slow learner students in the community in order to achieve expected competencies in core academic skills such as literacy and numeracy. This program is complementary to the formal education provided by community schools. The history of Open Houses Network dates back to the mid-1980s, when a group of young people started to restore village churches in East Germany in voluntary work to protect them from decay. The engagement for these buildings united people who enjoyed the freedom these activities provided and who filled these rooms with life again in ways which by far exceed the craftsmen s work done ( through exhibitions, concerts, making music together or just sitting by the camp fire. Meanwhile, rooms free of political and ideological pressure are no longer urgently required; however, places have become rare where people can meet without commercial pressure, free of bureaucracy and institutionalism, free of nepotism and the exclusion which it produces. What should be easy ( to go somewhere in order to meet people and to work together ( has become difficult. The tightrope walk between, on the one hand, public activities in a monetary and functional sense, and the retreat into private life on the other, is very difficult, and it requires a lot of power and permanent efforts to tackle red tape and financial restrictions. Free spaces are less and less understood as common property, and are permanently being cut back. The idea of public property seems to have gone out of fashion, and places of common responsible work have become rare. Open Houses Network tries to create and protect such spaces. In this process, we do not want to be the do-ers, but be people who have a vision, who want to initiate something, but who also are aware of depending on the co-operation of others. We understand our projects and events as offers ( as offers to create space for commitment, for changes, for meetings.

TRAVAIL

Because around the outer walls of the castle trees had been grown up during the last two decades, actually the castle is partly not seen from the valley. So, besides taking care of green areas the volunteers will help to cut the trees around the walls in order to expose the view to the castle and will transport the wood to the storage place as well as splitting and stacking the wood.

LOGEMENT & NOURRITURE

ACCOMMODATION:shared rooms with 2 – 5 beds in 3 guest houses, warm shower (limited hot water), 1 camp kitchen (cold water), coal-burning stovesFOODThe meals will be prepared together as they are part of the community life, what means that every participant will be responsible for the meal at least once during its stay. So it would be very nice if the participants could bring typical recipes from home in order to introduce each other to the preparation of food from all over the world.

SITUATION

Lohra Castle is situated in the heart of Germany in Northern Thuringia. The castle, which is surrounded by a scenic hilly landscape, is located on the edge of a nature reserve area. Being one of the largest castles in Thuringia, the history of the castle Lohra begins in the Middle Age. The castle is more than 1,000 years old. Today, it includes twenty buildings from different times: medieval fortifications, remnants of a tower from the 11th century, a Romanesque chapel, a manor house from the Renaissance period as well as stables and granaries from the 19th and the early 20th centuries. The ensemble is situated in the centre of a beautiful forest. For years Lohra Castle was vacant. In the 1990s Open Houses started to restore the castle and to revive it by cultural activities. Since that time, a large number of Workcamps, Building Weeks, exhibitions, concerts and other activities with international participants took place in the castle.LEISURE TIMEThe camp places are mostly situated in small villages in rural areas, so the participants should not expect busy places and normal city activities for the leisure time during the working days. Small trips in walking distance are possible in the afternoon. On the weekends it is possible to organise an excursion to nearby cities or to have other leisure activities.

RUCHI is a registered not-for-profit organization committed to environmentally sustainable development since 1983 in the northern Indian State of Himachal Pradesh. It runs humanitarian projects with the financial support from Indian government as well as funding from international sources. It has been involving international volunteers to support these ongoing community development project since 2000. It is a full member of NVDA and CCIVS and a permanent partner of European Alliance.

TRAVAIL

This is a rural mountain area where the economy of people is purely dependent on agriculture. The area is calm, peaceful and experiences severe winter. However, the small terraced fields do not allow for modern scientific tools and machinery operations. The work involves hard manual work. Consequently he production is low and people are forced to take up odd jobs for their survival.Changes in climatic conditions affect their farming and living conditions adversely. The green cover in mountains balances the environment and controls the climate in the whole country. The natural resources are depleting; fuel wood is sparingly available now for cooking and heating. It is high time that people think of alternative sources of energy. The project is organized by RUCHI in collaboration with Him Urja of state government and local village groups. The aim of the project is to try out and promote renewable sources of energy. In the first phase, we would like to establish demonstration units at RUCHI and make use of idle solar energy resource. There is ample sun light round the year except for few rainy days during monsoon and winter. We propose to make RUCHI complex totally a solar energy complex in due course. Therefore, we propose to do following under the project during 2019: 1. Establish solar panels for lighting on roofs and roadside and 2. Establish solar water heaters post solar lighting. After successful demonstration of solar energy at RUCHI we propose to promote the technology to rural communities where conventional electricity power is getting unaffordable. The project is expected to have better informed community on environmental concerns and have a greener environment with decreased carbon emission. Volunteers will undertake following activities (1. is the main, changed according to weather):1. Assisting the work for the solar energy (e.g., Identify ideal site on roadside for putting up solar lights, install solar panels on roofs and streets, monitor power consumption and production patterns).2. Planting fast growing trees with soil binding capabilities across the roadside and in RUCHI campus. The area is prone to land slide and soil erosions.3. Tending to fruit trees (Guava, Mango and Amla with onion and ginger) in RUCHI farm. The work may relate to mulching, removing weeds, pruning and preparing organic compost.

LOGEMENT & NOURRITURE

Volunteers will stay in RUCHI campus and share accommodation with another volunteer of the same sex. Cooked food will be served in the community kitchen. All meals will be Indian vegetarian. Bandh village where RUCHI is located is small comprising of say 35 families. It is close to Baddi township – the largest industrial area of the State. Kasauli hill station is also about 20 kms from our office.

SITUATION

TRAVAIL

Organising and leading an international Workcamp is an interesting challenge for those who enjoy working together with young people from all over the world, which are willing to take over a big responsibility and who look forward to a great summer in Germany. The camp leader s role lies in building a bridge between the participants of the Workcamp, the organisation as well as the technical leaders who guide the practical part of the camp. S/he supports the group of volunteers from a social and intercultural point of view. Open Houses is looking for people who are highly motivated and responsible, open minded and which already have some experiences in handling with other people. The main tasks are to organise the social life for all volunteers during the camp period. The leader will welcome the volunteers and make them familiar with the camp site. S/he will prepare the daily schedule, indicating the working and eating times including breaks and will furthermore be responsible for organising the cleaning and cooking teams, alternating within the group. The camp leader will buy the food for the group, having an eye on the everyday changing cooking teams with their individual dishes. Additionally, s/he organises leisure activities after the working days and is welcome to prepare campfires, barbecues, games or other group activities. For the weekends the camp leader should be ready to plan little trips to bigger cities nearby or other activities. A camp leader has rarely time for personal things during the Workcamp. S/he is always the person in charge of everything and contact person in any questions and needs of the volunteers. This should be clear to all applicants. It is also important that the camp leader stays in close contact to the technical leaders, who are organising the working groups and know which work has to be done. It is helpful to support the technical leaders by taking over the responsibility for a working group, if there are no other works to be done for the camp leader. At some camps, especially in environmental camps, it can happen that the functions of camp and technical leaders are running more together. So it is good to be prepared also to organise a little bit the working part. The camp leader is also responsible for managing the deduction and finances of the camp and to take care of the documentation ( writing down what has been done, taking pictures and leading the evaluation of the camp. It is important to do this documentation with a certain care, so that the camp leader which will lead the following camp will know what happened in the past and dsn t need to look for the same information or to do the same mistake a second time. The camp leader has to be able to work independently as well as in a team. Since most of the camps are organised by several camp leaders (one or two and one or more technical leaders) it is necessary to agree upon several issues in a team. All in all, leading a camp means a lot of work and empathy as we

ACCOMODATIONIn Lohra castle: Shared rooms with 2 – 5 beds in 3 guest houses, warm shower (limited hot water), 1 camp kitchen (cold water), coal-burning stoves. The camp leader can also go to other camps with similar accomodation conditions, but this will be previously agreed with the participant. FOODThe meals will be prepared together as they are part of the community life, what means that every participant will be responsible for the meal at least once during its stay. So it would be very nice if the participants could bring typical recipes from home in order to introduce each other to the preparation of food from all over the world.

SITUATION

The camp places are mostly situated in small villages in rural areas, so the participants should not expect busy places and normal city activities for the leisure time during the working days. Small trips in walking distance are possible in the afternoon. On the weekends it is possible to organise an excursion to nearby cities or to have other leisure activities.

This workcamp has been organized with Akame no SATOYAMA wo Sodateru kai , a local environmental NPO for conservation of SATOYAMA forest since 1999. Since this area is close from big cities Osaka and Nagoya, there were plans to build a golf field and an incinerator, but local people stopped those plans by the movement called National Trust . They founded the group in 1996 to collect donations to buy and protect lands, to accept people who want to enjoy nature, to maintain forests, to create a pond for dragonflies, to host national copse meeting, etc. SATOYAMA needs to be maintained by humans for its biodiversity and water adjustment function. Our ancestors had protected and utilized the forest in ecological and sustainable way, which was neglected by modernization. We will try to revive it by global voluntary power

TRAVAIL

Volunteers will cut down trees in the forest and carry them out so that SATOYAMA forest can be kept in the healthy condition for biodiversity. For work, volunteers need to use blades and sometimes machineries after the lecture on how to use them. Work is quite hard from morning to evening even in rain if itaeuros not so heavy. Sometimes, we may interact with mentally challenged people who work everyday for the same things as you will do.

LOGEMENT & NOURRITURE

SITUATION
