TRAVAIL

Program DescriptionThe two temple schools where we are working in these local communities, provide housing, food and education to children who may be without any family members to care for them, as well as those whose families cannot afford to take care of them. Moreover, these locations provide a home environment for children who come from Hill Tribes, but were registered as in need of supervision, in order for them to be considered Thai citizens, and receive applicable services. Most large temples schools in Thailand have integrated their own primary (and secondary) school onto their grounds and ours are no exception. The classrooms may seem old and a bit dirty, but the students are lovely and are happy to see our participants come each day.The temple school offers a safe learning environment for children who may come from underdeveloped backgrounds and have limited opportunities. Therefore, the temple school concentrates on the well-being of these children and offers them assistance in developing into happy and productive young adults. Other children attending the schools may come from remote areas of Thailand, where education is virtually non-existent or inaccessible. These children are at the temple school predominantly here for educational purposes, and will return home during certain periods of the year to be with family and friends. This program s focus consists of construction and renovation work that improves the facade and structures of the school and e

Your new home will be one of our 3 Eco Houses near Singburi, central Thailand: Lemon House, Twin House and Brown House. They are all located riverside (River Noi i Little River) in the village of Tha Kham and depending on which house you are staying at, is about 8-15km from Singburi (10-15 minutes by car). The 3 houses sleep from 30 to 72 people. All houses have a communal area where you can eat, relax, meet fellow participants or use the free Wifi.Although not directly on site, there are laundry facilities offered by locals which many of our participants take advantage of (this will probably cost you 53647; per item, otherwise you can easily wash your clothes by hand.)For participants who desire more comfort and privacy, families, couples and more elderly participants, we recommend upgrading to a comfort room. These rooms are more luxurious, uniquely designed and located apart from the two standard participant residences and so are noticeably quieter.

SITUATION

You will be located in the outskirts of Singburi, an interesting town 142 km north of Bangkok. Singburi was founded under the reign of King Rama V through the consolidation of 3 small towns located on the bank of The Chao Phraya River. The three small towns, Sing Buri, In Buri and Phrom Buri, were then established as a single town on the west of the Chao Phraya River in 1895.Your new home is set close to the village of Tha Kham, an extremely rural area that will give you the chance to experience the Thailand that very few get to see.

ICYE VIETNAM.BRIEF DESCRIPTION AND MAIN AIMS: The Ho Chi Minh Physio Centre project began in 1979 as a joint humane project between Terre des Hommes (Germany) and the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs of Vietnam, with the aim of providing rehabilitation for all paralysed children in South Vietnam. The centre opened in 1983, and in conjunction with many humane societies across the world has provided free health care to thousands of Vietnamese children. It provides rehabilitation treatment to adults and children who are usually referred here by their doctor or other hospitals. The aim of the program is to jointly bring care, love and happiness to disadvantaged children through volunteers activities.

TRAVAIL

VOLUNTEER TASKS : Volunteers will spend most of their time in the day-care room working with disabled children. At the project, you will take on two main roles, as a volunteer you will essentially be working as another member of local staff and as such must act accordingly. On the other hand, you are also there to care for and be a friend of the children. When working with the local staff you will be required to assist them in providing basic rehabilitation exercises and therapy treatment for children. The staff will guide you and help you understand the need of each individual child. If you work in the dedicated physiotherapy room you will be instructed by the Doctors to perform more focused and specialized physiotherapy work with children and sometimes adults.Back in the day-care room, one of the most important tasks is mealtimes when volunteers are expected to support local staff in feeding children who are unable to manage themselves. While this can at first seem somewhat overwhelming, you will feel more comfortable as you settle and understand the support needed due to a lack of local staff. The local staff will assign you to feed the easier children while they are in charge of the more difficult ones. As you become more familiar you will be expected to learn how to feed all the children. Quite different to the former, you will also help in practical activities such as preparing the room for lunch or naptime, cleaning and any other jobs required of you.

LOGEMENT & NOURRITURE

Volunteers will stay in a dormitory, sharing rooms with volunteers of other nationalities joining the same program. Normally, rooms are arranged with about 2-6 volunteers per room. In the busy time, the number can be maximum 7 or 9 volunteers per room in five bunk beds. Western toilets and showers are available. Air-conditioner at night time (9PM- 6AM);hot water using solar energy is available, but less during the raining season.
