You ll be joining us at the Bifengxia Giant Panda base, a branch of the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda and one of the largest of its kind. It started working in 2003 and suddenly grew in 2008 when Pandas were relocated here from Wolong Panda base, which was devastated in an earthquake that year. But since this move, the panda population here has more than doubled – which is an amazing achievement. A big share of pandas which you see anywhere in the world has originally come from this panda reserve The panda base is now looking to releasing the panda into the wild, fulfilling its long term ambition. What will you get up to? You will be involved in working about 4-6 hours a day side by side with panda caretakers by preparing food for the pandas such as apples, panda bread, carrots i and of course their favourite i bamboo, providing them food you have put together, cleaning their enclosures and ensuring they are secure in their environment. Please note: The keepers usually feed the Panda twice in the afternoon. However, this would depend on the individual condition of each Giant Panda and also other circumstances. We cannot guarantee the feeding times and also cannot ensure that every participant would be able to feed a Panda. Feeding tasks are assigned exclusively by the keepers. Occasionally, you might also be asked to conduct some research of the panda s habits and medical health so that we may extend our knowledge and experience in caring for this

Program Description : In a recently published English version of the Otaki tourist map, some shops and hotels are marked with a star, to indicate that the owners speak some English. Still it is a challenge to get around without speaking Japanese. – Pride plays a role in this as well. A hotel would rather refuse a booking of a foreigner, than losing face by not providing perfect service due to the language barrier. Which is not helping the village s initiatives to attract more foreign travelers into its picturesque surroundings. To help the village develop, two measures need to happen at the same time:Villagers and local business owners need to get used to interacting with foreignersLocals need to gain more confidence and practice in speaking EnglishJapanese students study English in high school but the current education method rather focuses on reading and writing than on conversation. So don t mistake them not talking to you for them not knowing English or even a lack of education. What is lacking is much more the practice in speaking. Without that practice, Japanese don t feel comfortable speaking though. This program aims to offer locals a platform to practice their English on their own terms. Participants are available at the community house in the afternoons and early evenings. Local students often stop by to study or work there for a few hours or to just hang out. That s your chance to ask them everything you d like to know about life in Japan and an

In the morning, however, you will be working at a school teaching young monks. This latest projects are situated in the quiet little village of Hanguranketha, which is approximately one hour s drive from Kandy. These new projects take you deeper into the rural parts of Sri Lanka away from the noisy and overcrowded cities. Previously known as Diyatileka, Nuwara and Sangaruwan Ketha, Hanguranketha is a village of tremendous historical significance. Although most of its palaces and temples were destroyed by invaders in the early part of the 19th century, there are still a large number of historical sites to be discovered. Temples of note in and around Hanguranketha include the Pothgul Maliga Maha Wiharaya which is built from the remains of an ancient palace and a library, the Vishnu Dewalaya, the Dadimunda Dewalaya and the Madanwela ancient temple. The village of Hanguranketha faces several problems such as the lack of clean drinking water, frequent power cuts, poorly staffed schools and run-down temples. We have already setup the following projects and look to add more in the near future based on the needs of the community.

TRAVAIL

Our ecovillege was created to provide continuity and stability to the sit-in that workers and users of the field of drug addiction began in February 2012, when the Community of Madrid decided to close, under the guise of austerity, the therapeutic community functioning here. The current social reality, the support received and our belief that the transformation must be carried out by the persons concerned, led us to continue and implement the project of living and learning together. We got to continue the project through self-management of our resources. We carry out gardening, animal care, maintenance of facilities and grounds. We are in constant exchange of ideas, goods and services with other groups and individuals, enriching each other. In turn, we have the contributions that each made according to their means. Through the assembly from the horizontal and respect, manage conflicts, make decisions, and ultimately we try to go forward. Volunteer tasks Working in the garden and the vegetal garden. Maintenance works and animal care (feeding, cleaning…) Building works Take part of the activities of the community: cooking, cleaning, etc.

SITUATION

Esparza is a medium-sized agricultural town nestled amongst the mountains above Rio Barranca, in the Central Pacific Coast area of Costa Rica. The area was first settled by the Chorotega and Huetar peoples. The Chorotega people fled from Mexico 1,500 years ago and brought their traditions with them. This is a possible reason why there are Mexican words which jump several countries and turn up again in Costa Rica. The Spanish town was founded in 1577, making it the second oldest in the country. It has a rich history which includes legends of hidden pirate gold. Esparza is the second largest canton in the province of Puntarenas, covering an area of 216.80 km, and with a population of approximately 35,000. The pace of life is relaxed. It is not unusual to see horses being ridden in the street. The town itself is off the tourist trail. However, the nearest beach for surf and relaxation is only 20 mins (14kms) away. Within a distance of 25 kilometers, you can also find canopy tours as well as the world-famous attractions of Puntarenas, including a marine park and a newly renovated marina. Likewise, the nearest national park, Carara, is only an hour s drive away.

You can also use the kitchen facilities to cook for yourself or eat out at any of the local restaurants.

SITUATION

An area of unspoilt natural beauty, framed by snowcapped Himalayan peaks. The capital of Sikkim, Gangtok, reflects this tiny state s extraordinary ethnic diversity. In the crowded city which spills precariously down a ridge, Lepchas (the region s original inhabitants) live alongside Tibetans, Bhutias, Nepalis and Indians from the plains. Though now full of modern structures, Gangtok s Shangrila aspects can still be experienced in pockets of the city and in its alpine environs. Until 1975, Sikkim was a kingdom with the status of an Indian Protectorate. It was ruled by the Chogyals Buddhists of Tibetan origin, whose dynasty began in the 17th century. However, the British Raj s policies of importing cheap labour from neighbouring Nepal for Sikkim s rice, cardamom and tea plantations drastically changed Sikkim s demography, soon Nepali Hindus constituted 75 per cent of the state s population. In 1975, the population of Sikkim voted overwhelmingly to join the Indian Republic, ending the rule of Palden Thondup, the last Chogyal.
