ICYE VIETNAM.BRIEF DESCRIPTION AND MAIN AIMS : The Tan Hung Community class (Class of Love) was established in May 2000 in Tan Hung ward, District 7. With a strong desire of offering free education for disadvantaged children, the class was set up with the hope of providing a bright future for them. All of the students are immigrated from other provinces throughout Vietnam. Their parents have unstable incomes, frequently move between different jobs and often move house amongst other reasons. This instability means the children are unable to attend public school due to fees and commitments required. There are currently 6 classes at the school from Grade 1 i 5. Each class has around 20 students, with around 120 attending the school in total. Students study for 10 months per year and examinations are held with support from local schools. At the end of the year, each child receives and evaluation of their studies. The aim of the program is to provide English language speaking environment for disadvantaged youth and develop their English communicative skills.

(Data in July 2012) After 10 years, the management board happily realized some achievements in that children should feel the care and love from the teachers, which leads them to more positive thinking. Also, thanks to the school, students parents know how to care more for their children and they don t feel inferior to other families who have better living conditions.VOLUNTEER TASKS : Volunteers will be responsible for taking control of the English class at the school. Volunteers will work as the sole teacher with the support of a Vietnamese volunteer to assist in translation and maintaining the class. You will be required to make a teaching plan with lesson plans using the learning materials provided to ensure continuity in learning from the teachers before and after you. TRAVAIL

Brief description and main aimsResponse to Disable Education and Health Development Foundation is a non-profit organization that aims to provide support to people with disabilities from Arusha. The project was founded in 2012 by Mr Martin K Nyambok and registered as an NGO in 2017. Mental disability is still a big stigma in the Tanzanian communities and most people with disabilities are affected by extreme poverty due to a lack of education and adequate health treatments. Response to Disable Education and Health Development Foundation was founded to combat this prejudice by strengthening the entrepreneurship skills of people with disabilities and by raising awareness of disabilities among the local population. Response to Disable Education and Health Development Foundation s objective is to ensure that people with disabilities are equipped with quality education and are given appropriate support according to their respective impairments. Their mission is to empower disabled people in Arusha and to make sure they are guaranteed the same rights as everyone else. 2 members of staff work at the office and they collaborate with local schools and hospitals for the realization of their programs. The project doesn t have any specific sources of funding, although some occasional private donors have financed the project. — Volunteer tasksVolunteers will be able to get involved in several activities depending on their skills, such as:Supporting the local teachers at government schools with English and other subjects such as Math, Science and ICTs;Playing with the children;Helping the kids with their homework;Doing home visits in the areas around Arusha and speaking to the families of children with disabilities.Since the project has only recently started, volunteers will have to possibility to shape its foundation and development for the future, thus having a tangible impact on society. Furthermore, teaching disabled children can be tough, but also extremely rewarding Professional doctors and nurses will follow a different program, as they will volunteer at government hospital and work together with the local team by providing medical treatments for children with disabilities. Extra procedures for the visa will need to be followed. Working hours:Start time: 8 amBreak time: 12 pmEnd time: 3 pm

LOGEMENT & NOURRITURE

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)Volunteers will stay in a hostel near the project site. They will be provided with 2 meals a day, while lunch is given by the project.More Information : The main challenges to expect are the lack of funds given to the projects and the possible hardship volunteers may encounter at the beginning if they have little or no experience working with disabled people. Volunteers will have to be extra resourceful and proactive in order to be able to work with very little financial support. By working at Response to Disable Education and Health Development Foundation, volunteers can learn more about the Tanzanian culture and way of living as well as how to be adaptable and proactive. Volunteers will be using Dar es Salaam international airport and we will arrange the tip to Arusha. Short-term volunteers will need to pay for their travel from Dar Es Salaam to Arusha by bus, including the transport to the bus station, and for a night in a hotel in Dar before departure. Overall, they will need topay an extra 50 Euro.

SITUATION

LocationThe project is located in Arusha, approximately 12 hours by bus from Dar es Salaam or 1 hours by flight. Arusha is located in Northern Tanzania, very close to all the main National Parks (Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire and Lake Manyara). The climate is much colder than in Dar Es Salaam; the city is small, but always full of tourists as all Safaris start from Arusha. There are plenty of western restaurants and cafes in the town. Kilimanjaro Mountain, the tallest mountain in Africa, is also easily accessible from Arusha.

They are run in small groups or, particularly for those at more advanced levels, on a one to one tutorial basis so your learning can be tailored to be more challenging. Most Mandarin varieties have four tones, which for foreigners who speak English will find challenging. But Mandarin is also the largest of the seven or ten Chinese dialect groups by far, spoken by 70 per cent of Chinese speakers and a huge area stretching from Yunnan in the southwest to Xinjiang in the northwest and Heilongjiang in the northeast. This program offers Chinese language training at all levels. Whether you are a Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced, we have trained professionals who have studied TCFL (Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language) that can accommodate you. We use approved teaching methods and offer flexible modules so that you can apply your newly acquired language skills in practical situations according to your specific needs – such as learning the language for leisure or work/business purposes.
