SEEDS programme combines learning, sharing and hands-on activities. On top of that you get to know Iceland and its culture while having fun, exploring the city, its attractions and stunning nature, which you can experience in possible excursions. Participants should prepare to share environmental issues from their countries and be ready to spend time outdoors walking medium distances (up to 1,5 hours) during activities and sightseeing. During this camp, participants can share their passion for (and learn more about) global and local environmental issues, as well as photography. If you are interested in topics such as climate change, waste management and sustainability, and you also love taking photos, then this project is for you While developing artistic and technical photography skills, you will be focusing on environmental and sustainability issues through non-formal activities such as workshops, discussions, presentations and visits facilitated by SEEDS. One of our aims is to help create more environmentally aware consumers and travellers

TRAVAIL

Note this project is a learning/sharing camp and not a standard workcamp. This project has a smaller volunteer work part and puts a bigger emphasis on the personal learning process than on the community impact. You will visit local projects on environment and conservation. These may include hands-on activities or guided visits, such as outdoor cleanup tasks, a local fauna and/or flora exhibition or an Icelandic culture museum. Some of these activities are dependent on weather conditions, as on the availability of our partners. You will also have time to put the theory about photography into practice while exploring the city. At the end of the camp, the best photographs from each participant are selected for an online exhibition on SEEDS social media. Participants should bring their own digital cameras, lenses, tripods and laptops if possible.

LOGEMENT & NOURRITURE

SEEDS participants will stay in a house in Reykjavik. The facilities are basic with an equipped kitchen, dining and living room, bathrooms, showers and a washing machine. It may be very cold and/or rainy, so we recommend bringing warm and waterproof clothes (underlayers, overcoats, scarves, gloves and hats) and good walking shoes, as some of the activities take place outdoors.

This is the nineteenth year (since 2008) that SEEDS organises a series of International Photography projects. In 2010 we also began offering these camps for teenagers. Throughout the year, participants from all over the world come to Iceland for an immersive photography-focused learning camp. SEEDS coordinators help participants to develop their unique photographic skills through workshops and feedback sessions on technical settings, compositional considerations, and creating conceptual frameworks that highlight each participants individual style.

TRAVAIL

Note that this is a learning/sharing camp and not a regular workcamp; this project has a smaller volunteer work part and emphasises the personal learning process over the community impact. We may be able to organise some outdoor voluntary work, but it depends on our partners and the weather conditions. Participants will have time to put the theory about photography into practice, exploring the city. At the end of the camp, the best photographs from each participant will be selected for an online exhibition on SEEDS social media. Participants should bring their own digital cameras, lenses, tripods, and laptops, if possible. While learning about photography, the participants have the opportunity to explore Icelandic culture through active participation: capturing it, engaging with it, and showcasing their work throughout the camp. One of our goals is to empower young people to use photography to highlight environmental and cultural subjects and issues.Participants should be ready to spend time outdoors walking medium to long distances during activities and working within a flexible schedule. Participants will be photographing in their free time outside of workshop hours with images to be discussed at group feedback sessions. This camp is open to participants aged 16 to 20. During their stay, SEEDS organises a programme that combines learning, sharing, getting to know Iceland and its culture, and having fun while exploring the city and some of the most stunning natural attractions in the Golden Circle and the Hot River hike excursions.

LOGEMENT & NOURRITURE

SEEDS participants will stay in a house in Reykjavik. The facilities are basic with an equipped kitchen, dining and living room, bathrooms, showers and a washing machine. As participants sleep in shared rooms with up to 6 people, everyone is expected to behave considerately. Please bring your own towel. Participants will receive food supplies and be in charge of the cooking and cleaning activities. Note the food SEEDS provides will be vegetarian. Do not forget to bring some traditional/typical food, drinks, recipes, music or games from your country for the intercultural evening. Be aware some items or ingredients may be expensive in Iceland and you will need to buy them yourselves or bring them from your country.

SITUATION

Reykjavik is a dynamic, modern city which lives in harmony with nature, using renewable energy sources. The worlds northernmost capital bridges the Atlantic, between Europe and North America. Reykjavik is spread across a peninsula with a panoramic view of the mountains and the Atlantic. It is an international city with a lively cosmopolitan cultural scene surrounded by beautiful nature.Additional excursions (eg. the South Shore or Reykjanes Peninsula) can be arranged at discount fares depending on time availability, weather conditions, and the number of participants interested in joining them. Be prepared for cold or rainy weather and bring warm and/or waterproof clothing.

BESOIN SPÉCIAL

Participation fee EUR 550 (Euros), which needs to be transferred to SEEDS the latest one month before the camp starts to confirm the placement. It includes food, accommodation, transportation from the meeting point to the camp (on the first day), the Golden Circle and Hot river hike excursions. We will visit spectacular waterfalls, geysers, impressive coastline, a volcano crater, the Thingvellir National Park and much more.

The Emmaus Community of Villafranca is part of the global Emmaus Movement, which aims to combat poverty and social exclusion through the principles of work, sharing, and mutual aid. The Emmaus Community of Villafranca di Verona was founded in 1985, following a work camp organised in Villafranca in which young Italians and Europeans took part. Due to the success of the camp, the Municipality made available a former school. From the beginning, a group of friends was formed around the community, with whom Emmaus organised (and still organises) moments of deepening on the themes of solidarity, peace, non-violence… The role of this group of friends has been fundamental in the life of the Community and in making Emmaus known and appreciated in Villafranca. And if today so many people understand and support our community, it is thanks to the work and presence of these friends. The main objective of Emmaus is the reception of people in need, carrying out activities such as the collection, reuse and recycling of used materials with display at the Solidarity Flea Market. Zero Mileage Garden: organic vegetable growing. Care and maintenance of the community s green spaces. Spending the day (activities and free time) with the people hosted on the site.

TRAVAIL

The volunteers will take part in the classic activities of collecting, sorting, selling, recycling and repairing materials that have always characterised the Emmaus communities. They will share the days with the local volunteers and the people welcomed in the Emmaus community, both in activities and in moments of leisure. Volunteers will take an active part in the organisation of the solidarity flea market, in the selection of materials and their placement at the market, they will be able to take part in the organisation of our organic zero-mileage vegetable garden and they will be able to try their hand at cooking. For those who are interested in salvaging and restyling, there will be opportunities to help with the improvement of the spaces (gardening, painting, space recovery, etc.).

LOGEMENT & NOURRITURE

Volunteers will sleep in the community hall where mattresses and/or camp beds will be provided. There is a shaded garden where volunteers can spend time. There are toilets, showers, hot and drinking water and electricity. Food is prepared by the community workers, but volunteers can help with meal preparation and washing up.

SITUATION

Volunteers can visit Verona city or other places nearby on their own costs. Verona can be reached by bus in about 40 min.

BESOIN SPÉCIAL

A positive, respectful attitude towards community members and fellow volunteers. Flexibility and adaptability to different working conditions and schedules.VERY IMPORTANT. Restriction on alcohol consumption in the community and in presence of community members and fellow volunteers.

ProjectThis project is organized for local children by The Language School In Down-Town and the non-profit educational association Alternative Language Programs Satellite (ALPS) as part of their annual activities on multicultural issues for youth. Some international teenage participants may join. The common project s aim is to introduce the diversity of world cultures to children and provide them with good practices in intercultural communication using the learning-by-doing method and organizing alternative English language practice. The project gets youngsters familiar with customs and traditions of the countries from all over the world and encourages them to develop their cross-cultural thinking and tolerance as well as global thinking and individual initiative. This summer we offer you to participate in our project called LANDSCAPES . We invite volunteers to support our camp participants learning about a new trend of ecosystems in nature, society, technologies, economy, politics and human relationships. Together, we plan to find out how these complex deeply interwoven ecosystems shape the way we live, learn and thrive, and what those competences are that empower humans to understand, navigate, and positively influence them. Camp participants will try to develop their strategies for a holistic, interconnected view of the world and gain ideas on how not just to survive in a complex world – but to help reshape it toward greater justice, sustainability, and flourishing for all life. Meetings with local and/or international professionals in the field will take place. Thematic photo and video contests for camp participants will be organized.NB It is possible and you are welcome to apply for 2 shifts in a row EST DT1 EST DT2 or EST DT3 EST DT4

This project is organized for international teenagers by the non-profit educational association Alternative Language Programs Satellite (ALPS) on the basis of The Language School In Down-Town as part of their annual activities on multicultural issues for youth. Teenagers from several countries arrive to participate in the intercultural camp where day activities are integrated with local children, while evening free-time activities are held separately and of an optional nature. There is a group of international volunteers who facilitate day activities. Both international teenagers and volunteers are accommodated in the school premises. Thus, the main aim of this work camp is to provide a technical support like household chores and campus patrol, and to ensure a smooth and safe environment at school during the evening hours like pastoral and welfare support and communication for a group of 20-24 international teenagers of 14 to 17 years old.

TRAVAIL

The load of work is split into the Morning and Afternoon shifts for 2 volunteers. There are no working hours but a list of tasks or operations, which are expected to be completed timely, meaning that the key time points for being at the campus logically come from the purpose of the working task according to the camp schedule. The same is about the days-off. There are days that are completely or partially free days with no or few tasks to do, other days may be more intensive involving long stay-in working days. The working tasks throughout the week fall into two main categories, such as household chores (including some simple cooking) and pastoral and welfare support (including urgent night patrol and access to the building). Thus, the volunteer will mainly do some of these: supervise meals and all kinds of sanitary routine, manage behaviour and adherence to policies as well as daily routine and order in bedrooms or facilities supervise campus health and safety orientation, manage evening activity and/or leisure programme, communicate with parents. The work requires high level of responsibility.

SEEDS volunteers will support the ReykjavEk Municipality in the main outdoor skiing recreational areas of the capital region, at BlEUfjEll (Blue Mountains). The main tasks focus on maintenance and preparation of the area for the summer and the next ski season.

TRAVAIL

This includes maintaining slopes and trails by raking and scraping, general cleaning of the mountain areas, and collecting trash, debris, and natural waste. The municipality and several sports associations run lodges and mountain huts there and they may also need some renovation jobs, such as painting and/or cleaning. In addition, volunteers may assist with the maintenance of a local Bike Park and surrounding outdoor areas, including cleaning slopes and green areas, mowing grass, repairing and improving walking and biking paths. The work is hands-on, physically demanding, and carried out outdoors, often on uneven terrain. Volunteers should be motivated to work in raw and isolated mountain landscapes and be prepared for changing Icelandic weather. No previous experience is required; instructions and tools are provided. Flexibility, good physical condition, and a positive team spirit are essential, as tasks and schedules may change due to weather.Volunteers will gain practical experience in outdoor and environmental maintenance, contribute to community recreational areas, work in an international team, and spend time in nature while supporting local projects. A typical working day starts in the morning after breakfast. Work usually lasts 7(8 hours per day, including breaks. Lunch is taken together, either outdoors or at the accommodation. After work and during weekends, volunteers have free time to relax, explore the area, for social activities, cultural exchange, games, or group time. The camp takes place around the summer solstice, when the sun barely sets and nights are almost as bright as the days. Volunteers will have the opportunity to experience the midnight sun, making it unique and memorable.

LOGEMENT & NOURRITURE

SEEDS volunteers will stay in one of the lodges in the mountains and sleep in a shared dormitory. Please bring your own sleeping bag. facilities are basic with an equipped kitchen, dining and living room, bathroom, shower and a washing machine. SITUATION

The skiing areas of BlEUfjEll are about 40 minutes drive from the city. The location is remote and isolated, even though it is still close to the city. The Blue Mountain range is situated near the ring road and stretches from the capital area to the south-western lowlands, the highest mountain reaching 600 m.The area has great slopes for downhill skiing and snowboarding as well as tracks for cross-country skiing. The areas are excellent for recreation, not only for alpine and cross country skiing, but for other outdoor activities as well such as hiking and mountain biking. Nature lovers are certain to find something to their liking, but it is important to be careful crossing the rugged lava fields because of the numerous caves underneath.

PARTENAIRE

SEEDS participants will stay in a house in ReykjavEk. The facilities are basic with an equipped kitchen, dining and living room, bathrooms, showers and a washing machine. Participants will receive food supplies and be in charge of the cooking and cleaning activities. Note the food SEEDS provides will be vegetarian. Do not forget to bring some traditional/typical food, drinks, recipes, music or games from your country for the intercultural evening.
