Furthermore, volunteers will assist in organising a final public event to promote volunteering and European youth mobility programmes to local residents.

The social cooperatives I Locandieri were born from the idea of cooperation between individuals and institutions, with the mission of generating social and economic value for the benefit of as many people as possible. They offer services to people, especially migrants, and since 2008 they have been welcoming migrants in two communities, including minors and families. One of their missions is to give new life to the confiscated property. Over the years they have given back to the community places confiscated from crime, transforming them into communities for migrants and sports facilities for children, young people and migrants living in Castelvetrano.Il Giardino delle Arance is another confiscated property that has been returned to the community: a small building from the late 18th century with three hectares of land that has been renovated to become a home for minors; a cottage that will become a space-lab for the processing of home-grown agri-food products and a shop to sell the garden s produce. Outside, there are 2 hectares of citrus groves and 1 hectare of land where an intensive organic vegetable garden has been created to implement an ambitious socio-economic project.

TRAVAIL

Volunteers will support the members of the cooperative in the maintenance of the organic vegetable garden, in particular in the cultivation, sowing and harvesting, in the setting up of the fruit and vegetable shop. Some renovation work can be organised according to the needs of the place. The work is mainly manual and is only organised in the mornings due to the high temperatures (between 7:00 – 12:00). Afternoons are free and volunteers can explore the surrounding area or take public transport to the beach. Depending on the interest of the volunteers, it is possible to organise workshops to decorate the interior of the house. At the end of the workcamp, there could be a cooking workshop with the volunteers of the cooperative and the young migrants hosted by the cooperative. Study part: Members of the cooperative will share their stories and experiences of managing property confiscated from organised crime and their knowledge of organic farming.

LOGEMENT & NOURRITURE

A small building from the end of the 18th century renovated as a cosy house with three hectares of land outside. The house has 4 bedrooms (2 triple and 2 double) with wardrobes, a rustic kitchen, 3 small bathrooms with shower, and a living room. Volunteers will have to share bedrooms, bathrooms and common areas. There is plenty of space outside to enjoy the summer weather. Volunteers will be responsible for cooking, cleaning and keeping the area clean and safe. Wifi is available.

SITUATION

Castelvetrano is a town in Sicily, in the province of Trapani. It is known for its rich history, including its proximity to the archaeological site of Selinunte, one of the largest ancient Greek cities in Sicily. The town is famous for the production of high quality olive oil and the historical centre is rich in monuments. A pine forest is 4 km from the accommodation, while the historical centre is 1 km away.

BESOIN SPÉCIAL

Volunteers should have an interest in agriculture, be willing to work very early in the morning and have a good level of autonomy to enjoy their free time.

Also, there is ongoing work of planting seeds. Some days work will be done at neighbouring Jariste wine farm https://jaristeveinitalu.com/en that produces wine and cider from Estonian grapes, berries, fruits and apples in the historic tavern of Luke manor. It is one of the few in Estonia who make wine from grapes grown in our own vineyard. So, the work is grapevine care (pruning, tying up), apple tree and field grape care (pruning, weeding), and other work in plantation. This project is initiated in response to the gradual decline of historic town centers in rural Taiwan, where rich cultural landscapes face challenges caused by urban migration, aging populations, and the abandonment of traditional buildings. Xiluo Township, located in central Taiwan, is a representative example of this situation. With a history of more than 360 years, Xiluo was once an important agricultural and commercial hub closely connected to river transportation and regional trade. However, as transportation routes shifted and younger generations moved to major cities, many historic streets and houses were left vacant and deteriorating.Yanping Historical Street is the cultural heart center of Xiluo. During the Japanese colonial period, the town was planned as a modern model city. Between 1925 and 1945, a large number of buildings were constructed along Yanping Street, forming a unique streetscape characterized by Art Deco facades and hybrid architectural styles. These buildings reflect not only architectural trends of the time but also the economic prosperity and daily life of the town s residents. Today, although 142 historic houses still stand along the street, many of them are empty, weathered, and disconnected from everyday community life. The purpose behind this project is not only to repair physical structures, but also to restore the relationship between people, space, and local culture. Heritage preservation, in this context, is understood as a living process rather than a static display. Old houses regain meaning only when people enter them, work in them, and create new memories within them. The project is organized by the Louyoung Education and Culture Foundation, whose mission is to promote cultural preservation, community education, and local revitalization in Yunlin County. The foundation has already undertaken numerous activities, including the restoration of historic buildings, international workshops, and long-term artist residency programs. We also run the Community college, which focuses on lifelong learning, civic engagement, and community-based education. ProjectEstonian Fund for Nature (ELF) is NGO dedicated to nature conservation. Its mission is to preserve endangered species and their habitats, natural landscapes and natural associations typical of Estonia. ELF has organized yearly nature conservation holidays where volunteers, participants and group managers work together in order to improve the living conditions of a certain species (natterjack toad, black stork) or maintain semi-natural communities. Read more on http://elfond.ee/en and check photos of previous years projects https://www.talgud.ee/talgud/tehtavad-tood/harivesilik , https://www.talgud.ee/talgud/tehtavad-tood/verev-lemmmalts , : https://talgud.ee/talgud/galerii/2025 This year camp has two different tasks – wooded meadow management and restoration of breeding ponds for newts, which have to be accomplished in two different locations. The aim of the first part is protection of wooded meadows in Alam-Pedja nature reserve. Alam-Pedja Nature Reserve was created in 1994 on the lower reaches of the Pedja river, and comprises bogs, and floodplains. You can find some of the most remote areas of Estonia here, with plenty of wildlife. Palupohja Nature School was established in an old farm house in 2001, and has housed ELF s Summer School (a 4-day scythe-festival) since 2017.Wooded meadows rich in flowers and birds have been a characteristic part of Estonian landscapes for centuries. At a time when most of the population lived in the countryside, pastures were needed to graze the animals and meadows to obtain winter fodder. Wooded meadows are areas with regularly mowed natural herbs and sparse trees and shrubs, where the sunniest open areas alternate with individually growing trees and more shady groups of trees. It is these diverse conditions that help woodlands to maintain an exceptional species richness. Source: https://keskkonnaamet.ee/en/project-woodmeadowlife The aim of the second part is restoring the habitat of endangered amphibian the northern crested newt which takes place in Haanja.Haanja National Park is the hilliest part of an otherwise low country. It s locally known for some distinct cultural heritage: smoke saunas and Voru dialect. Haanja hills create a highly diverse landscape with small size fields, hay meadows, forests, and wetlands, which is a perfect habitat for many cultural landscape species that have been lost in intensive farming areas. The great crested newt (Triturus cristatus) is a rare dark lizard-like threatened amphibian species in Estonia, occurring mainly in the southern part of the country. One of the main reasons for the decrease in the crested newt numbers is the lack of small water bodies suitable for breeding. Volunteers will clear the ponds of brushwood and vegetation, which helps to ensure the survival and increase of existing populations. Here are photos from previous camps in Haanja https://www.talgud.ee/talgud/tehtavad-tood/harivesilik NB The first days of the camp

The Environmentally Aware and amp; Action project is part of a series of camps organised by SEEDS in cooperation with different partners. SEEDS collaborates with the Icelandic Ministry for Environment and Natural Resources, the City of ReykjavEk, and several local stakeholders on a project to clean up the Icelandic coastline. Partners include the Blue Army, an organisation dedicated to the cause of coastal cleaning, SORPA, the waste collection and amp; management entity in the capital area, and Whales of Iceland, an exhibit showcasing life-size models of whales and porpoises to educate the public about their lives and the impact of human activity on their existence.

TRAVAIL

This camp allows volunteers to learn about global and local environmental issues through non-formal activities such as workshops, discussions, presentations and visits, as well as to contribute directly to environment protection by joining outdoor cleanup tasks. These cleanup tasks may be arranged in partnership with the above mentioned organisations or run solely by SEEDS. We also aim to involve the local community, so some of our events may be open to the public. We hope participants will learn how to plan and carry out their own trash cleaning projects back at home. This project is based on similar activities around the world, where outstanding results have been achieved with volunteers. Volunteers can choose one of the two options below, included as hands-on volunteering activity in the camp:A day trip combining a visit to the HellisheiE(i geothermal power plant, a trash collection in the area, and the Hot River Hike, a hike up a valley filled with hot springs where one can bathe. A day trip to the Reykjanes Peninsula, combined with a coastal cleanup in the area. Please note that all activities are subject to weather conditions and the availability of our partners. This camp combines learning, sharing, hands-on work and fun. No previous experience is needed. Volunteers should prepare to share environmental issues from their countries and be ready to spend time outdoors, walking medium to long distances during the cleanups, and during other activities such as sightseeing. This is the nineteenth year (since 2008) that SEEDS organises a series of International Photography projects. In 2010 we also began offering these camps for teenagers. Throughout the year, participants from all over the world come to Iceland for an immersive photography-focused learning camp. SEEDS coordinators help participants to develop their unique photographic skills through workshops and feedback sessions on technical settings, compositional considerations, and creating conceptual frameworks that highlight each participants individual style.

TRAVAIL

Note that this is a learning/sharing camp and not a regular workcamp; this project has a smaller volunteer work part and emphasises the personal learning process over the community impact. We may be able to organise some outdoor voluntary work, but it depends on our partners and the weather conditions. Participants will have time to put the theory about photography into practice, exploring the city. At the end of the camp, the best photographs from each participant will be selected for an online exhibition on SEEDS social media. Participants should bring their own digital cameras, lenses, tripods, and laptops, if possible. While learning about photography, the participants have the opportunity to explore Icelandic culture through active participation: capturing it, engaging with it, and showcasing their work throughout the camp. One of our goals is to empower young people to use photography to highlight environmental and cultural subjects and issues.Participants should be ready to spend time outdoors walking medium to long distances during activities and working within a flexible schedule. Participants will be photographing in their free time outside of workshop hours with images to be discussed at group feedback sessions. This camp is open to participants aged 16 to 20. During their stay, SEEDS organises a programme that combines learning, sharing, getting to know Iceland and its culture, and having fun while exploring the city and some of the most stunning natural attractions in the Golden Circle and the Hot River hike excursions.

LOGEMENT & NOURRITURE

PARTENAIRE

The Emmaus Community of Villafranca is part of the global Emmaus Movement, which aims to combat poverty and social exclusion through the principles of work, sharing, and mutual aid. The Emmaus Community of Villafranca di Verona was founded in 1985, following a work camp organised in Villafranca in which young Italians and Europeans took part. Due to the success of the camp, the Municipality made available a former school. From the beginning, a group of friends was formed around the community, with whom Emmaus organised (and still organises) moments of deepening on the themes of solidarity, peace, non-violence… The role of this group of friends has been fundamental in the life of the Community and in making Emmaus known and appreciated in Villafranca. And if today so many people understand and support our community, it is thanks to the work and presence of these friends. The main objective of Emmaus is the reception of people in need, carrying out activities such as the collection, reuse and recycling of used materials with display at the Solidarity Flea Market. Zero Mileage Garden: organic vegetable growing. Care and maintenance of the community s green spaces. Spending the day (activities and free time) with the people hosted on the site.

TRAVAIL

They will share the days with the local volunteers and the people welcomed in the Emmaus community, both in activities and in moments of leisure. Volunteers will take an active part in the organisation of the solidarity flea market, in the selection of materials and their placement at the market, they will be able to take part in the organisation of our organic zero-mileage vegetable garden and they will be able to try their hand at cooking. For those who are interested in salvaging and restyling, there will be opportunities to help with the improvement of the spaces (gardening, painting, space recovery, etc.).

LOGEMENT & NOURRITURE

Volunteers will sleep in the community hall where mattresses and/or camp beds will be provided. There is a shaded garden where volunteers can spend time. There are toilets, showers, hot and drinking water and electricity. Food is prepared by the community workers, but volunteers can help with meal preparation and washing up.
