ProjectInternational language camp is organized for teenagers by The Language School In Down-Town and the non-profit educational association Alternative Language Programs Satellite (ALP S) as part of their annual activities on multicultural issues for youth. The project s aim is to introduce the diversity of world cultures to the youth and provide them with good practices in intercultural communication by means of alternative English language practice which includes meetings, visits, contacts to young people from abroad. The project gets teens of 14 to 16 years old familiar with national traditions of the countries from all over the world, encourages them to develop their global thinking and individual initiative, tolerance and resistance to xenophobia and ethnic hatred. Camps give foreign participants a great chance to meet youngsters both from Estonia and other countries as well as to experience local life. This summer we offer you to participate in our project called LANDSCAPES . We invite you to explore ecosystems that shape the way we live, learn and thrive in the domains of nature, society, technologies, economy, politics and human relationships. Together, we will try to develop working strategies for a holistic, interconnected view of the world such as seeing connections between parts of a whole, co-evolution or understanding unintended consequences. Camp participants will learn to build supportive peer networks and naturally integrate individual aims into existing ecosystems, manage change for alternative future and take initiative, influence synergetic loops and utilize personal progress for mutual sustained prosperity. We hope you will gain ideas on how not just to survive in a complex world of various ecosystems – but to help reshape it toward greater justice and flourishing life. The Environmentally Aware and amp; Action project is part of a series of camps organised by SEEDS in cooperation with different partners. SEEDS collaborates with the Icelandic Ministry for Environment and Natural Resources, the City of ReykjavEk, and several local stakeholders on a project to clean up the Icelandic coastline. Partners include the Blue Army, an organisation dedicated to the cause of coastal cleaning, SORPA, the waste collection and amp; management entity in the capital area, and Whales of Iceland, an exhibit showcasing life-size models of whales and porpoises to educate the public about their lives and the impact of human activity on their existence.
TRAVAIL
This camp allows volunteers to learn about global and local environmental issues through non-formal activities such as workshops, discussions, presentations and visits, as well as to contribute directly to environment protection by joining outdoor cleanup tasks. These cleanup tasks may be arranged in partnership with the above mentioned organisations or run solely by SEEDS. We also aim to involve the local community, so some of our events may be open to the public. We hope participants will learn how to plan and carry out their own trash cleaning projects back at home. This project is based on similar activities around the world, where outstanding results have been achieved with volunteers. Volunteers can choose one of the two options below, included as hands-on volunteering activity in the camp:A day trip combining a visit to the HellisheiE(i geothermal power plant, a trash collection in the area, and the Hot River Hike, a hike up a valley filled with hot springs where one can bathe. A day trip to the Reykjanes Peninsula, combined with a coastal cleanup in the area. Please note that all activities are subject to weather conditions and the availability of our partners. This camp combines learning, sharing, hands-on work and fun. No previous experience is needed. Volunteers should prepare to share environmental issues from their countries and be ready to spend time outdoors, walking medium to long distances during the cleanups, and during other activities such as sightseeing. Since a part of the project happens outdoors, volunteers should be ready to adapt and be flexible with the work and free-time schedule. Depending on the weather, we may not be able to perform some of the activities as planned.

This is the nineteenth year (since 2008) that SEEDS organises a series of International Photography projects. In 2010 we also began offering these camps for teenagers. Throughout the year, participants from all over the world come to Iceland for an immersive photography-focused learning camp. SEEDS coordinators help participants to develop their unique photographic skills through workshops and feedback sessions on technical settings, compositional considerations, and creating conceptual frameworks that highlight each participants individual style.
TRAVAIL
Note that this is a learning/sharing camp and not a regular workcamp; this project has a smaller volunteer work part and emphasises the personal learning process over the community impact. We may be able to organise some outdoor voluntary work, but it depends on our partners and the weather conditions. Participants will have time to put the theory about photography into practice, exploring the city. At the end of the camp, the best photographs from each participant will be selected for an online exhibition on SEEDS social media. Participants should bring their own digital cameras, lenses, tripods, and laptops, if possible. While learning about photography, the participants have the opportunity to explore Icelandic culture through active participation: capturing it, engaging with it, and showcasing their work throughout the camp. One of our goals is to empower young people to use photography to highlight environmental and cultural subjects and issues.Participants should be ready to spend time outdoors walking medium to long distances during activities and working within a flexible schedule. Participants will be photographing in their free time outside of workshop hours with images to be discussed at group feedback sessions. This camp is open to participants aged 16 to 20. During their stay, SEEDS organises a programme that combines learning, sharing, getting to know Iceland and its culture, and having fun while exploring the city and some of the most stunning natural attractions in the Golden Circle and the Hot River hike excursions.

The Emmaus Community of Villafranca is part of the global Emmaus Movement, which aims to combat poverty and social exclusion through the principles of work, sharing, and mutual aid. The Emmaus Community of Villafranca di Verona was founded in 1985, following a work camp organised in Villafranca in which young Italians and Europeans took part. Due to the success of the camp, the Municipality made available a former school. From the beginning, a group of friends was formed around the community, with whom Emmaus organised (and still organises) moments of deepening on the themes of solidarity, peace, non-violence… The role of this group of friends has been fundamental in the life of the Community and in making Emmaus known and appreciated in Villafranca. And if today so many people understand and support our community, it is thanks to the work and presence of these friends. The main objective of Emmaus is the reception of people in need, carrying out activities such as the collection, reuse and recycling of used materials with display at the Solidarity Flea Market. The purpose of this one is to discover the diversity of different countries and cultures through artistic expression which could be dancing or singing, national style party, music or art of any kind i anything volunteer is good at. We want to give children opportunity to discover cultural differences, to learn it and reflect after. To achieve this aim Vihasoo camp invites international volunteers to join it as animators. Most of children are Russian-speaking from minority communities of Estonia. The area of the camp is 1,8 ha. It can host about 80 children on one shift. The age is 13-16. This camp named Our Theme is designed to introduce children to modern art trends and cultural expressions in a fun and engaging way. Over eight days, participants will explore a variety of artistic styles, including hard bass, body art, rap, beatboxing, tectonics, C-Walk, breakdance, hip hop, drums, shuffle, and more. Talented artists and experienced mentors will lead interactive workshops and masterclasses, helping children develop new skills, express creativity, and gain confidence in artistic self-expression. The highlight of the camp is a final live performance, where participants will showcase their newly acquired talents during an open event at a local club, inviting the public to join in a lively party and disco. SITUATION
ViE(ey or Wood Island is the largest (1.7 kmI) island in the KollafjErE(ur Bay, just outside ReykjavEk, the capital of Iceland. The island is covered by many species of plants and at least 30 species of breeding birds have been counted here. ViE(ey was inhabited soon after the settlement of Iceland in the 10th century. In the beginning of the 20th century, around 100 people lived there. Today the island is uninhabited. There is a regular ferry connection between the island and the harbour of ReykjavEk. The island is only a few hundred metres away from the city and the trip takes a few minutes. This makes ViE(ey so special; it is a peaceful place, very close to the busy city life of the capital. There are hiking and cycling paths around the island and there is no motor traffic allowed. It also features intriguing sculptural artwork, amongst them all nine pairs of basalt pillars that comprise Richard Serras work Efangar and Yoko Onos Imagine Peace column, a tower of light, which is supported by the widow of John Lennon. ProjectFor a decade EstYES promotes camps where parents and children can participate together. The idea is to create a kind of temporary community where adults and children can share ideas of voluntary activity for the benefit of rural area. Camp schedule allows adults to act as volunteers like in any other voluntary camp working 4-5 hours a day for practical tasks. Meanwhile children work as well, in the sense that they take part in the activities helping parents and sharing easy tasks with them. Local hosts supported by parents care about the children during the working activities, providing snacks, proposing games and activities, etc. In the daily free time and during days off group excursions and other activities will be organised by the local hosts. Parents can join the camp in pair or alone with their children. Some English is necessary for parents in order to communicate among them and with the campleader. The camp follows a positive experience of almost 20 years VenueIt is a very long tradition for EstYES to organize international workcamps in co-operation with Kiidi Farm located in the Voru County in the South of Estonia. With the support of the state and local authorities the eco- and farm sustainable tourism has been developed in this area. Besides promoting the environmental tourism, this initiative supports rural development, which is an important issue for Estonia. Estonian Association of Farm Tourism has launched several projects, and Kiidi Farm, where the camp takes place, is one of them. It is run by large Piho family with 8 kids, who were kids when we started our cooperation but are young adults of different age now. Nevertheless, they continue to contribute to the camp success. More information on Kiidi Farm is on site www.kiidi.ee
