International language camp is organized for teenagers by The Language School In Down-Town and the non-profit educational association Alternative Language Programs Satellite (ALP S) as part of their annual activities on multicultural issues for youth. The project s aim is to introduce the diversity of world cultures to the youth and provide them with good practices in intercultural communication by means of alternative English language practice which includes meetings, visits and direct contacts to young people from abroad. The project gets teens of 14 to 16 years old familiar with national traditions of the countries from all over the world, encourages them to develop their global thinking and individual initiative, tolerance and resistance to xenophobia and ethnic hatred. Camps give foreign participants a great chance to meet youngsters both from Estonia and other countries as well as to experience local life. This summer we offer you to participate in our new project called MATRIX . Camp participants will learn about different meanings of this word. Together, we will identify the ways how to improve the matrix of the modern world, how to become a better version of ourselves and how to develop our emotional intelligence. Camp participants will acquire life skills that they will need to create their own codes for personal matrices that will have power to change their life for the better. They are the smart matrices of our personalities, souls, love and success, well-being and happy life. Meetings with local and/or international professionals in the field will take place. Thematic photo and video contests for camp participants will be organized.

The day off is spent either under the leadership of a member of the school staff or in the host family. Camp activities will take place in the premises of the language school that is situated in the very centre of the city. The Awareness, Engagement and Action project is part of a series of camps organised by SEEDS in cooperation with different partners, where we try to raise awareness about current environmental issues and encourage the volunteers to take action One of our main goals for the next few years is to contribute to a nation-wide project aiming at cleaning up the Icelandic coastline. SEEDS works along and supports the Icelandic ministry for Environment and Natural Resources, the Icelandic Environmental organisation Landvernd, the Environmental Agency of Iceland, Umhverfisstofnun and other partners in order to draw attention to the issues of ocean pollution, plastic waste and to engage volunteers in cleaning up actions around the country. This camp allows volunteers to learn about global and local environmental issues through non-formal educational activities such as workshops, discussions, presentations and visits, as well as to contribute directly to environmental protection by joining outdoor coastal cleanup tasks in the shores and beaches. Additional work will be undertaken in the area of our accommodation such as removing old fences dangerous to wildlife and visitors, as well as helping with renovation and maintenance of the house. We may also be marking some walking paths and, depending on the advance of the mentioned tasks, volunteers might do some forestry tasks in a small forest planted in the area, like trimming the vegetation or planting some trees. This project is actively working for SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDGs 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), organized together with the local group since 2019. This village has been welcoming Ohenro (pilgrims) who visit 88 temples in Shikoku since long time ago. The pilgrims walk through this village before visiting Kakurin-ji temple; the 20th temple out of 88 temples of the Shikoku Ohenro Pilgrimage. However, there are problems which should be solved such as aging and depopulation of the community these days, and locals haven t been able to find solutions for those problems. On the other hand, since more and more people from overseas visit for the Shikoku Ohenro Pilgrimage locals are trying to find new ways for omotenashi (hospitality). Volunteers who have been working on the project have come up with ideas for the reuse of vacant and abandoned land. Local host Oi have finally decided that they can freely renovate and modify the vacant houses. Moreover, the site is in a good location, with mountains, a river and fields. It is up to the volunteers from now on to decide how to develop the project. The aim is for the volunteer members to clean up the abandoned houses and village landscape and transform it into a village that people will want to visit to take photos, as it used to be a village where people came and went since ancient times.

Since 2000 we have had volunteers around the world joining our summer programs which were designed around building sustainable vegetable farming facilities. Over the years we have learned that developing eco-friendly and sustainable farming facilities ds require a lot of research on improving our farming methods, learning the best practices from local farmers on improving the crop quality and perseverance despite the setbacks which were imminent in harsh Mongolian continental climate, with long, frigid winters and short, warm summers. We are hoping to transform our eco-friendly vegetable farming facility into a sustainable organic farming training center which teaches the low income families how to grow healthy greens on their own. Organic fruits and vegetables are sparse and expensive in Mongolia which makes them unaffordable for many low income families. We are planning to donate any crops from our facilities to families in need in addition to providing them with the knowledge of how to grow their own crops.

TRAVAIL

Main works are helping at eco farm trough our work such as remove the weeds in the field, working in the greenhouse, making water canal for farm, making compost, etc. Quite tiring but let s enjoy it.

This project is actively working for SDG2 (Zero Hunger) and SDGs 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), organized together with Akitsugawa Promotion Group (APG) since 2024. Tanabe City and Minabe Town in Wakayama Prefecture are Japan s largest ume(plums)-growing areas. Over 400 years ago, firewood forests were left around plum groves and near ridges on steep slopes to support plum production by recharging water sources, supplying nutrients and preventing slopes from collapsing. The bees that inhabit the wood and coal forests also help pollinate the plums. In addition, the wood and charcoal forests produce Kishu-binchotan, a top-quality charcoal made from Japanese oak logs, and a wood and charcoal forest management method called selective logging has been devised, which can quickly regenerate logs and is not found elsewhere in the region. However, the region is also suffering from an ageing population and declining birth rate, and sustainable agriculture, particularly plum farming, is in danger due to a lack of manpower. An international workcamp was organised with the aim of communicating the plum and the region s attractions to volunteers from home and abroad, and connecting them to the next generation. In addition, rich Japanese food centred on rice. APG would like to think together about expanding the consumption of ume as a side dish.

TRAVAIL

SEEDS volunteers will again be working with the Reykjavik municipality in two of the main outdoors skiing and recreational areas in the capital region, Blafjoll (or the Blue Mountains) and Skalafell.

TRAVAIL

In Skalafell the ski slopes are turned into a bike park during summertime and mountain bike enthusiasts can nourish their passion. The main tasks will include renovation and maintenance work on the bike trails; mainly raking and scraping them up. Other possible tasks may be related to general cleaning of the area.In the Blue Mountains, the main tasks will be maintaining the slopes and preparing them for the next ski season. The municipality and several sports associations run lodges and mountain huts there and they may also need some renovation jobs, such as painting and/or cleaning. The working plan is flexible and it will depend on the needs of our local hosts, this group is planned to mostly work at Skalafell. The landscape is raw and volunteers need to be motivated to work outdoors and to experience isolated mountain areas. No previous experience is necessary, but the work is demanding and requires a good physical condition. As it is outdoor work, volunteers shall be ready to adapt and be flexible with the working and free-time schedule, as depending on the weather, we may not be able to perform some of the planned tasks. The camp happens around the summer solstice, when the sun hardly sets and the nights are almost as bright as the days. The bright nights are magical and staying awake and enjoying the beautiful surroundings is a unique experience. During the time of the camp participants will have the opportunity to experience the midnight sun as there are 24 hours of light even if the sun does set for short periods of time.

LOGEMENT & NOURRITURE

SEEDS volunteers will stay in one of the ski lodges in the mountains and sleep in a shared dormitory. Please bring your own sleeping bag. Volunteers will receive food supplies and be in charge of the cooking and cleaning activities. Do not forget some traditional/typical food, drinks, music and recipes from your country for the intercultural evening.

SITUATION

The skiing areas of Blafjoll and Skalafell are both about 30 minutes driving away from the city. The Blue Mountains are south-west of Reykjavik and Skalafell is located to the east of the city. Both areas have great slopes for downhill skiing and snowboarding as well as tracks for cross-country skiing. Blafjoll has 16 lifts and Skalafell has 4 lifts. The sports area in Skalafell is situated at an elevation between 380 and 700 m.The Blue Mountain range is situated near the ring road and stretches from the capital area to the south-western lowlands. The highest mountain in the range reaches 600 m and in 1968 the district became a very popular skiing resort among Icelanders. The areas are excellent for recreation, not only for alpine and cross country skiing, but for other outdoor activities as well such as hiking and mountain biking. Nature lovers are certain to find something to their liking, but it s important to be careful crossing the rugged lava fields because of the numerous caves underneath.

TRAVAIL

This workcamp is for nature lovers since the work will be mainly outdoors. The volunteers will work in a nature park on the island Usedom located in the Baltic Sea. There is a lot of work around the natural reserve. Since its not possible to use common agriculture techniques, volunteers have to do everything manually. Moreover, every meadow around must be cut and the grass has to be put aside. The aim of this project is to help to protect this unique reserve through your contribution.

This project is actively working for SDG 2 (Zero Hunger)and SDGs 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), organized together with Green Volunteers for Green Future (GV4GF) since 2012 (since 2017 in this place). Project is a based on paddy farming area. Higurakgoda is a part of the Polonnaruwa District, Sri Lanka s 2nd kingdom, exist 1100 years ago. Higurakgoda is a settlement, established in 1956, under the government development plan. Families brought to here from different parts of Sri Lanka and asked them to settle here while doing paddy farming. Different parts of Sri Lanka have different kind of sub cultures. In here all of them are mixed and emerge a new sub culture. Now 3rd generation is living here with their 2nd generation parents. During the 21st century, technology is changed rapidly but it is not reached to these areas because of language barrier, unawareness, narrow perspectives and so on. As a country, everyone should be a part of countryE EEis development process but unfortunately these rural communities are somehow rejected by the administration. But actually, communitiesE EEi active participation is essential to overcome the burdens and to establish a just society. Some families are doing other activities to live. Making bags, packeting spices, maintain plant nurseries are among them. We are working closely with paddy farmers as well as other families who have no lands to do agriculture too.

TRAVAIL

Basically our projects consists with two parts. First three days we are working at the one place that is our main work, helping family to do their nursery work. Making pots, mix soil and composts, watering to plants, making propagators, arrange the pots are among the work. PARTENAIRE
