Wuqi District is located on a plain between the Da an River and the Dadu River, bordering Qingshui District to the north, Shalu District to the east, Longjing District to the south, and the Taiwan Strait to the west. Today, Wuqi s coastline is connected to Taichung Port. As a coastal town, Wuqi s development history is inextricably linked to the rise and fall of its port.Wuqi was formerly known as Zhuofaxie and Wuqi Port. During the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty, it was called Ao Xi. In the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty (1891), it was renamed Wuqi Port, meaning the phoenix does not perch on places other than Wuqi, does not drink from springs other than the sacred spring, and does not eat bamboo .On December 25, 2010, Wuqi Township was upgraded to Wuqi District as part of the merger of Taichung County and City into a special municipality. Although the administrative area is not vast, it still has a deep cultural tourism potential, especially its rich cultural assets, such as local historical relics, historical buildings, and local folk culture, which are all worth seeing. In the past few years of its prosperous years, temples have also become ubiquitous buildings in Wuqi, reflecting the piety of the ancestors to religion and their expectations for life. When the northeast monsoon blows, local eels migrate, leading to a proliferation of seafood restaurants in Wuqi. These restaurants not only satisfy the palates of locals but also allow visitors to experience the daily life of this land.Aims:The coastal area of Taichung boasts numerous traditional buildings and is a region where population migration and folk activities flourish. The purpose of this activity is to understand the importance of preserving the environment of the port area and to learn about the historical buildings in the port area of Taichung City, such as the traditional houses in Wuqi Old Street. Participants will learn about traditional architecture and its reuse methods. Furthermore, this activity will allow participants to experience the local customs, industries, and lifestyle of Taichung Port.

ProjectInternational language camp is organized for teenagers by The Language School In Down-Town and the non-profit educational association Alternative Language Programs Satellite (ALP S) as part of their annual activities on multicultural issues for youth. The project s aim is to introduce the diversity of world cultures to the youth and provide them with good practices in intercultural communication by means of alternative English language practice which includes meetings, visits, contacts to young people from abroad. The project gets teens of 14 to 16 years old familiar with national traditions of the countries from all over the world, encourages them to develop their global thinking and individual initiative, tolerance and resistance to xenophobia and ethnic hatred. Camps give foreign participants a great chance to meet youngsters both from Estonia and other countries as well as to experience local life. This summer we offer you to participate in our project called LANDSCAPES . We invite you to explore ecosystems that shape the way we live, learn and thrive in the domains of nature, society, technologies, economy, politics and human relationships. Together, we will try to develop working strategies for a holistic, interconnected view of the world such as seeing connections between parts of a whole, co-evolution or understanding unintended consequences. Camp participants will learn to build supportive peer networks and naturally integrate individual aims into existing ecosystems, manage change for alternative future and take initiative, influence synergetic loops and utilize personal progress for mutual sustained prosperity. We hope you will gain ideas on how not just to survive in a complex world of various ecosystems – but to help reshape it toward greater justice and flourishing life. Meetings with local and/or international professionals in the field will take place. Thematic photo and video contests for camp participants will be organized.

This is the nineteenth year (since 2008) that SEEDS organises a series of International Photography projects. In 2010 we also began offering these camps for teenagers. Throughout the year, participants from all over the world come to Iceland for an immersive photography-focused learning camp. SEEDS coordinators help participants to develop their unique photographic skills through workshops and feedback sessions on technical settings, compositional considerations, and creating conceptual frameworks that highlight each participants individual style.

TRAVAIL

Note that this is a learning/sharing camp and not a regular workcamp; this project has a smaller volunteer work part and emphasises the personal learning process over the community impact. We may be able to organise some outdoor voluntary work, but it depends on our partners and the weather conditions. Participants will have time to put the theory about photography into practice, exploring the city. At the end of the camp, the best photographs from each participant will be selected for an online exhibition on SEEDS social media. Participants should bring their own digital cameras, lenses, tripods, and laptops, if possible. While learning about photography, the participants have the opportunity to explore Icelandic culture through active participation: capturing it, engaging with it, and showcasing their work throughout the camp. One of our goals is to empower young people to use photography to highlight environmental and cultural subjects and issues.Participants should be ready to spend time outdoors walking medium to long distances during activities and working within a flexible schedule. Participants will be photographing in their free time outside of workshop hours with images to be discussed at group feedback sessions. This camp is open to participants aged 16 to 20. During their stay, SEEDS organises a programme that combines learning, sharing, getting to know Iceland and its culture, and having fun while exploring the city and some of the most stunning natural attractions in the Golden Circle and the Hot River hike excursions.

LOGEMENT & NOURRITURE

PARTENAIRE

The Emmaus Community of Villafranca is part of the global Emmaus Movement, which aims to combat poverty and social exclusion through the principles of work, sharing, and mutual aid. The Emmaus Community of Villafranca di Verona was founded in 1985, following a work camp organised in Villafranca in which young Italians and Europeans took part. Due to the success of the camp, the Municipality made available a former school. From the beginning, a group of friends was formed around the community, with whom Emmaus organised (and still organises) moments of deepening on the themes of solidarity, peace, non-violence… The role of this group of friends has been fundamental in the life of the Community and in making Emmaus known and appreciated in Villafranca. And if today so many people understand and support our community, it is thanks to the work and presence of these friends. The main objective of Emmaus is the reception of people in need, carrying out activities such as the collection, reuse and recycling of used materials with display at the Solidarity Flea Market. Zero Mileage Garden: organic vegetable growing. Care and maintenance of the community s green spaces. Spending the day (activities and free time) with the people hosted on the site.
