SEEDS volunteers will support the Reykjavik Municipality in the main outdoor skiing recreational areas of the capital region, at Blafjoll (Blue Mountains). The main tasks focus on maintenance and preparation of the area for the summer and the next ski season.

TRAVAIL

This includes maintaining slopes and trails by raking and scraping, general cleaning of the mountain areas, and collecting trash, debris, and natural waste. The municipality and several sports associations run lodges and mountain huts there and they may also need some renovation jobs, such as painting and/or cleaning. In addition, volunteers may assist with the maintenance of a local Bike Park and surrounding outdoor areas, including cleaning slopes and green areas, mowing grass, repairing and improving walking and biking paths. The work is hands-on, physically demanding, and carried out outdoors, often on uneven terrain. Volunteers should be motivated to work in raw and isolated mountain landscapes and be prepared for changing Icelandic weather. No previous experience is required; instructions and tools are provided. Flexibility, good physical condition, and a positive team spirit are essential, as tasks and schedules may change due to weather. Volunteers will gain practical experience in outdoor and environmental maintenance, contribute to community recreational areas, work in an international team, and spend time in nature while supporting local projects. A typical working day starts in the morning after breakfast. Work usually lasts 7i8 hours per day, including breaks. Lunch is taken together, either outdoors or at the accommodation. After work and during weekends, volunteers have free time to relax, explore the area, for social activities, cultural exchange, games, or group time. The camp takes place around the summer solstice, when the sun barely sets and nights are almost as bright as the days. Volunteers will have the opportunity to experience the midnight sun, making it unique and memorable.

LOGEMENT & NOURRITURE

SEEDS volunteers will stay in one of the lodges in the mountains and sleep in a shared dormitory. Please bring your own sleeping bag. facilities are basic with an equipped kitchen, dining and living room, bathroom, shower and a washing machine. Volunteers will receive food supplies and will be in charge of cooking and cleaning. Please note the food SEEDS provides will be vegetarian. Do not forget to bring some traditional/typical food, drinks, recipes, music, games or movies from your country for the intercultural evening. Please be aware some items or ingredients may be expensive in Iceland and you will need to buy them yourselves or bring them from your country.

SITUATION

The skiing areas of Blafjoll are about 40 minutes drive from the city. The location is remote and isolated, even though it is still close to the city. The Blue Mountain range is situated near the ring road and stretches from the capital area to the south-western lowlands, the highest mountain reaching 600 m. The area has great slopes for downhill skiing and snowboarding as well as tracks for cross-country skiing. The areas are excellent for recreation, not only for alpine and cross country skiing, but for other outdoor activities as well such as hiking and mountain biking. Nature lovers are certain to find something to their liking, but it is important to be careful crossing the rugged lava fields because of the numerous caves underneath.

BESOIN SPÉCIAL

Participation fee EUR 300 (Euros). The fee can either be transferred in advance via bank transfer, or paid for on arrival. The fee includes the transport from Reykjavik to the campsite and back (on the first and last day of the camp).

This is the nineteenth year (since 2008) that SEEDS organises a series of International Photography projects. In 2010 we also began offering these camps for teenagers. Throughout the year, participants from all over the world come to Iceland for an immersive photography-focused learning camp. SEEDS coordinators help participants to develop their unique photographic skills through workshops and feedback sessions on technical settings, compositional considerations, and creating conceptual frameworks that highlight each participant s individual style.

TRAVAIL

Note that this is a learning/sharing camp and not a regular workcamp; this project has a smaller volunteer work part and emphasises the personal learning process over the community impact. We may be able to organise some outdoor voluntary work, but it depends on our partners and the weather conditions. Participants will have time to put the theory about photography into practice, exploring the city. At the end of the camp, the best photographs from each participant will be selected for an online exhibition on SEEDS social media. Participants should bring their own digital cameras, lenses, tripods, and laptops, if possible. While learning about photography, the participants have the opportunity to explore Icelandic culture through active participation: capturing it, engaging with it, and showcasing their work throughout the camp. One of our goals is to empower young people to use photography to highlight environmental and cultural subjects and issues. Participants should be ready to spend time outdoors walking medium to long distances during activities and working within a flexible schedule. Participants will be photographing in their free time outside of workshop hours with images to be discussed at group feedback sessions. This camp is open to participants aged 16 to 20. During their stay, SEEDS organises a programme that combines learning, sharing, getting to know Iceland and its culture, and having fun while exploring the city and some of the most stunning natural attractions in the Golden Circle and the Hot River hike excursions.

LOGEMENT & NOURRITURE

SEEDS participants will stay in a house in Reykjavik. The facilities are basic with an equipped kitchen, dining and living room, bathrooms, showers and a washing machine. As participants sleep in shared rooms with up to 6 people, everyone is expected to behave considerately. Please bring your own towel. Participants will receive food supplies and be in charge of the cooking and cleaning activities. Note the food SEEDS provides will be vegetarian. Do not forget to bring some traditional/typical food, drinks, recipes, music or games from your country for the intercultural evening. Be aware some items or ingredients may be expensive in Iceland and you will need to buy them yourselves or bring them from your country.

SITUATION

Reykjavik is a dynamic, modern city which lives in harmony with nature, using renewable energy sources. The world s northernmost capital bridges the Atlantic, between Europe and North America. Reykjavik is spread across a peninsula with a panoramic view of the mountains and the Atlantic. It is an international city with a lively cosmopolitan cultural scene surrounded by beautiful nature. Additional excursions (eg. the South Shore or Reykjanes Peninsula) can be arranged at discount fares depending on time availability, weather conditions, and the number of participants interested in joining them. Be prepared for cold or rainy weather and bring warm and/or waterproof clothing.

BESOIN SPÉCIAL

Participation fee EUR 550 (Euros), which needs to be transferred to SEEDS the latest one month before the camp starts to confirm the placement. It includes food, accommodation, transportation from the meeting point to the camp (on the first day), the Golden Circle and Hot river hike excursions. We will visit spectacular waterfalls, geysers, impressive coastline, a volcano crater, the Thingvellir National Park and much more.

PARTENAIRE

This camp is part of SEEDS ongoing efforts to raise awareness, promote engagement in environmental issues and to support sustainability, organic and permaculture farming, social inclusion, education and hands-on actions in the field. Volunteers will gain insights into local and global challenges through non-formal educational activities such as hands-on work, visits, discussions, and workshops. SEEDS volunteers have the opportunity to participate in different projects in collaboration with Landvernd (the Icelandic Environmental Organization), the EcoVillage at Solheimar, the Icelandic Ministry for Environment and Natural Resources, Umhverfisstofnun (the Icelandic Environmental Agency) and Blai Herinn (the Blue Army). SEEDS volunteers will take on a variety of activities, depending on weather conditions and the needs of our partners including working in the forestry section and vegetable greenhouses in the EcoVillage, as well as participating in a nationwide project to raise awareness of ocean pollution, plastic waste, and engage the group in hands-on cleanup efforts in the area, allowing volunteers to make a direct impact

TRAVAIL

The camp is based at Alviora, which offers a range of activities to connect people with nature, such as community gardens, wildlife workshops, school programs, and hikes. As part of the camp, volunteers help maintain the center through tasks like gardening, renovating the house and other projects such as removing old fences to protect wildlife, marking walking paths, and potentially do forestry work like trimming or planting trees. This camp combines learning, sharing, hands-on work and fun. No previous experience is needed. Volunteers should be prepared to share environmental issues from their home countries and be ready to spend time outdoors. Volunteers should be ready to adapt and be flexible with the work and free-time schedule. Depending on the weather, we may not be able to perform some of the activities as planned.

LOGEMENT & NOURRITURE

SEEDS volunteers stay in an old farm which has been transformed into an environmental education centre. The facilities are basic with an equipped kitchen, dining and living room, bathroom, shower and a washing machine. Volunteers sleep in shared rooms, with up to 6 people per room.

SITUATION

The accommodation is located an hour drive south-east from Reykjavik. The house serves as an environmental-educational centre and sits under Ingolfsfjall, The Mountain of Ingolfur, with a view of Eyjafjallajokull where the volcanic eruptions began in March and April 2010. The place is registered as natural Icelandic heritage; the nature, vegetation and birdlife is rich in variety and quantity. The volunteers can enjoy outdoor activities in a peaceful and beautiful location with a small stream and a pond nearby. Hiking trails with maps about cultural heritage can be found throughout the area, which is a popular attraction among both foreign and local visitors. The nearest town, Selfoss, only 10 minutes-drive away, with 6500 inhabitants, is a centre of commerce and small industries where you find a geothermal swimming pool, shops, museums, cafes and bars. Additional excursions (e.g. Golden Circle, the South Shore or Reykjanes Peninsula or a day-trip to the city of Reykjavik) can be arranged at discount fares depending on time availability, weather conditions, and the number of volunteers interested. The weather may be cold or rainy, so we recommend bringing warm and/or waterproof clothes.

BESOIN SPÉCIAL

Participation fee EUR 450 (Euros). The fee can either be transferred in advance via bank transfer, or paid in cash on arrival. PARTENAIRE

The Environmentally Aware and Action project is part of a series of camps organised by SEEDS in cooperation with different partners. SEEDS collaborates with the Icelandic Ministry for Environment and Natural Resources, the City of Reykjavik, and several local stakeholders on a project to clean up the Icelandic coastline. Partners include the Blue Army, an organisation dedicated to the cause of coastal cleaning, SORPA, the waste collection and management entity in the capital area, and Whales of Iceland, an exhibit showcasing life-size models of whales and porpoises to educate the public about their lives and the impact of human activity on their existence.

TRAVAIL

This camp allows volunteers to learn about global and local environmental issues through non-formal activities such as workshops, discussions, presentations and visits, as well as to contribute directly to environment protection by joining outdoor cleanup tasks. These cleanup tasks may be arranged in partnership with the above mentioned organisations or run solely by SEEDS. We also aim to involve the local community, so some of our events may be open to the public. We hope participants will learn how to plan and carry out their own trash cleaning projects back at home. This project is based on similar activities around the world, where outstanding results have been achieved with volunteers. Volunteers can choose one of the two options below, included as hands-on volunteering activity in the camp: A day trip combining a visit to the Hellisheioi geothermal power plant, a trash collection in the area, and the Hot River Hike, a hike up a valley filled with hot springs where one can bathe. A day trip to the Reykjanes Peninsula, combined with a coastal cleanup in the area. Please note that all activities are subject to weather conditions and the availability of our partners. This camp combines learning, sharing, hands-on work and fun. No previous experience is needed. Volunteers should prepare to share environmental issues from their countries and be ready to spend time outdoors, walking medium to long distances during the cleanups, and during other activities such as sightseeing. Since a part of the project happens outdoors, volunteers should be ready to adapt and be flexible with the work and free-time schedule. Depending on the weather, we may not be able to perform some of the activities as planned.

The association 1/2ivimo zezedno founded a group of parents with the aim of improving the quality of life of their children – persons with intellectual disabilities, families and the entire social community in 1997. Given that we have been in existence for over 28 years, we have extensive experience in working with people with disabilities, as well as organizing various events. The mission of the association is to make people with developmental disabilities visible, present and active in all segments of social life, to affirm their abilities and individuality, to promote their rights and enable them to live a dignified and fulfilling life. The values of the association are equality, commitment, tolerance, solidarity, partnership development as well as permanent education for all.The association implements a program of empowerment and independence of users on a daily basis in the association in Belgrade – these are activities: life skills school, school for adults (functional educational activities), psycho-social support activities, work-occupational activities, artistic activities (creative, dramatic, musical…), sports activities, entertainment…

TRAVAIL

Volunteers will be engaged 8 hours a day, 5 or 6 days a week, in agreement with them and current needs. Most of the activities are realized outside. Activities in which volunteers participate are activities that our users also engage in daily: maintenance and arrangement of work and living space; tidying up the yard and plot; pulling weeds and working in the garden and greenhouse (hing, watering, crop care and harvesting…) – at the location where the accommodation is; sorting of the obtained fruits and vegetables – separation for nutrition in the camp, for distribution to socially disadvantaged members of the local community; going to the local environment to empty recycling containers with PET packaging and bringing it to Oasis; pressing packaging and separating caps; visiting vulnerable families from the local community. The camp is designed as a place for socializing, mutual communication and inclusion of people with developmental disabilities with volunteers from the regular population, who come from different cultures and environments. In addition to work activities, activities are also planned that promote togetherness, socializing, relaxation and fun for all participants of the Oasis. Table tennis, bowling, basketball are just some of the activities that will be available to volunteers during their free time. At the end of the camp, a farewell party is planned for all volunteers.

LOGEMENT & NOURRITURE

Camp Oaza Golubinci gathers people of good will who are ready to help and provide support in life and work to adults with developmental disabilities. Oasis Golubinci is a living and working community for people with disabilities, and in the Oasis itself there is accommodation for volunteers and users. Volunteers will be accommodated in houses that have all the necessary equipment (sufficient number of bathrooms, kitchen, dining room), in double and triple rooms. All houses/accommodation units are in the same yard, so volunteers are directed to each other, although they may be in separate houses. Given that there are 4 different kitchens, there are opportunities for volunteers to participate in the preparation of food themselves, and the association can provide the necessary food, according to our capabilities. Volunteers will be provided with bedding.

SITUATION

Golubinci (village/town in the municipality of Stara Pazova), 8km from the town of Stara Pazova. The town has about 5,000 inhabitants, it is a multicultural environment, the majority of the population is of the Orthodox faith, but the Catholic population is also very represented. In the center of the town there are Orthodox and Catholic churches, a supermarket, a post office, a school, a kindergarten, a health center, cafes… It is interesting that the castle Schloss (from the 18th century) is located there, which is accompanied by stories about curses, infidelities and punishments. It has significant architecture and historical value because KaraA orA e PetroviA and composer Ludwig Van Beethoven stayed there. Various events are held in the town itself throughout the year: Cat Shows (masquerade ball and Carnival), Days of Rosemary, Earth Day… During the volunteers stay, the celebration of Petrovdan will be held – the glory of the place, during which numerous outdoor activities will be organized and a fair enjoyed by all the locals. In Stara Pazova (8 km from Golubinac) there is a train station from which you can take a fast train to Belgrade and Novi Sad in 15-20 minutes, where volunteers can get to know the numerous sights of Serbia in their free time.

TRAVAIL

his camp allows volunteers to learn about global and local environmental issues through non-formal activities such as workshops, discussions, presentations and visits, as well as to contribute directly to environment protection by joining outdoor cleanup tasks.

LOGEMENT & NOURRITURE

SEEDS volunteers stay in a house in Reykjavik. The facilities are basic with an equipped kitchen, dining and living room, bathrooms, showers and a washing machine.

Sachsenhausen is a district of Oranienburg, about 33 km north of Berlin. In 1936, the Sachsenhausen concentration camp was established there. It served as a site of forced labor, imprisonment, and violence against people persecuted by the Nazi regime, including political opponents, Jewish people, LGBTQ individuals, Sinti and Roma, people with disabilities, individuals marginalized as social outsiders and many others, especially from occupied countries during the war. Thousands were victims of murder and brutal abuse. Before Sachsenhausen, in 1933, the first state concentration camp was set up in Oranienburg. This camp mainly held political opponents and was later used for Nazi propaganda. It closed in 1934, and many prisoners were transferred elsewhere. Sachsenhausen later became a central camp in the Nazi system, used for SS training and forced labor in industries like brickworks and arms production. In 1945, as the war ended, many prisoners were forced on death marches. Soviet troops liberated the remaining inmates on April 22, 1945.After the war, part of the site was used as a Soviet special camp.
