Our partner school in Canada is located in the Lunenburg Academy building that overlooks the city. Wealthy of 72 years of experience, the school offers a large range of language courses to international students. Over the years, the school has been able to develop lots of partnerships with Canadian schools and universities in order to offer programs allowing students to join more easily the aforementioned schools and universities. The staff and teachers will make sure that your experience in their school will go as smoothly as possible. You will be supported and accompanied in your linguistic project, you will be taught quality lessons and you will be able to rely on a friendly and accessible staff.

You will join our partner school s HomeStay program. Then, you ll be placed with a Canadian host family that the school previously selected. You will have your own room and, depending on the family you are placed with, you may have your own bathroom. You will be free to access the rest of the house as your host family will treat you as a family member. Rules to be observed in the house will be explained upon your arrival. Regarding food, you will receive three square meals a day. Once we ve found your perfect fit for a host family, you will get a detailed description of its members and of the house. In all cases, students who d choose to live with a host family are treated with respect and kindness.

SITUATION

The school is located in a small Nova Scotian town in Canada called Lunenburg. Lunenburg nestles among charming and typical Canadian landscapes of the southern part of Nova Scotia. A rich maritime background, an ideal climate regardless of the season, countless natural-life wonders, unlimited leisure opportunities, and friendly Canadians definitely make Lunenburg a town that is worth visiting. Furthermore, Lunenburg has been listed among the UNESCO World Heritage Sites thanks to its numerous unique buildings that date back to the colonial period (70 of these buildings are still standing) Lunenburg is a safe, welcoming and easy-to-get-around city. All the sites are accessible on foot or by bicycle. Project Hiiumaa according to the Nordic sagas emerged from the Baltic Sea as a small islet more than 10 000 years ago. The island of Hiiumaa was first mentioned in historical documents as a deserted island called Dageida in 1228. The first inhabitants settled down at the end of the 13th century. Nowadays Hiiumaa is the second biggest island of Estonia with the area of 965 sq. km and the population around 10 000. It has many historical and nature sights, and there are kind people known for their hospitality and good sense of humor. The island is referred as a remote area of Europe, so EstYES feels particularly proud developing international voluntary projects for dozen of years there. Also, for years EstYES has been cooperating with farms all over Estonia for solidarity, respect and practical support to local people who work in agricultural sector keeping traditional life style and developing new eco-farming despite of all difficulties. Alliksaare Farm is one of such projects. This is an organic farm promoting sustainable lifestyle, and this camp is proposed for volunteers who appreciate and share its values, want to learn more about it and to help hard working people. In addition to agricultural activities, Alliksaare Farm has another important task taking care of coastal meadows which are international birds migration area under protection of NATURA Programme. TRAVAIL

Alliksaare Farm s main direction is horses and cattle farming. At the moment there are over 70 horses and around 100 cows on the farm. One work will be to take care and maintain the pastures located by the sea – clearing around the pastures, building or removing fences, repairing fences. Another work is cleaning the coast nearby the farm from rubbish brought by storms. There can be some work for preparing food for cows and horses for winter time. BUT you can work also with horses, take care of them and together with the host train horses. If you know how to ride and know more about horses it is possible to go on trail rides and work with horses more. If you want to learn how to ride there is a possibility as well. There are young and older horses so it s possible to learn how to take care and train horse of any age, starting from training foals how to walk on the lead rope and getting them to trust humans as well as riding some troubled horses or training horses to ride under saddle or front of the carriage. The work will be mainly outdoors. Working time is 6-8 hours a day. Work will be done under the supervision of the host as well as independently.

LOGEMENT & NOURRITURE

The accommodation conditions are simple – in caravans, beds are provided. In cold period volunteers may stay in the farm house with the host family. Please bring your sleeping bag. Toilets and showers are available on site. There is a kitchen with all necessary equipment for cooking. Food ingredients will be provided.

Location Alliksaare farm is located in Nurste Kula, Emmaste parish, Hiiumaa island. Hiiumaa is situated in the western part of Estonia, approximately 130 km from Tallinn. More information available on the following websites: www.emmaste.ee, www.hiiumaa.ee, www.visitestonia.com Leisure time There are a lot of interesting natural picturesque sights on the island as well as good possibilities for swimming in the sea or hiking in the forest. It is possible to visit other parts of Hiiumaa island on the week-end, which is planned by the host. Hiiumaa offers a lot of various cultural events in summer time and volunteers will have the possiblity to join some of them. This camp is perfect for people who enjoy being close to the nature and are interested in traditional way of rural living. But it is also possible to go to mainland on weekends or days off. The connection is regular and easy.

You have to be open-minded and ready to adapt to the simple conditions of the common life in Estonian countryside. Be ready for independent work staying without permanent supervision. Please consider that the work is mainly farm work which can be hard sometimes. It would be great if you have experience with horses and/or cows. It is great if you have some technical skills: repair machines, building, use chainsaws, etc. Driving license is an advantage. Smoking and drinking alcohol are not permitted on the farm. Participation fee There is participation fee of 100 Euro which has to be paid by volunteer upon arrival to the project. It covers the whole period of stay regardless of its duration. The minimum duration of stay is one month.

Sagevere Goat Farm is situated in the tiny village with 18 inhabitants in the middle of Estonia. There has been a farm there since 1841. Now there are 68 adult goats plus baby goats on the farm. The farm also has chickens, rabbits and few lambs. The farm produces goat milk products and different types of breads. This is a lifestyle farm i its goal is not to make a profit but to live close to nature carrying out traditional way of living and farming. This is an organic farm promoting sustainable lifestyle, and this camp is proposed for volunteers who appreciate and share its values, want to learn more about it and to help hard working people in country side. TRAVAIL

The volunteers will help with everyday farm jobs such as milking goats, feeding chickens and rabbits, making cheese, curd, butter, yogurt and traditional bread, taking care of pastures. Other possible tasks are removing manure from the small barn, helping with ongoing building projects of a rabbit hutch and a chicken coop, cleaning the forest around, making firewood, painting and fixing the barns and the house, working on the small farm vegetable field, assisting at the farmer market once a month, helping at the farm store in Viljandi, etc. The volunteers will work 5-6 days a week 5-7 hours a day. Volunteers will be supervised by the hosts.

LOGEMENT & NOURRITURE

Volunteers will live on the second floor of the farm hosts house. Although it is in not finished, it is warm and well-lighted. Hosts will provide beds and linens, but it is advisable to bring a sleeping bag. The bathroom and toilet are on the first floor. Hosts will provide meals while volunteers are invited to help cooking. Farm meals is based on meat and dairy products. If volunteer has dietary restrictions, solutions can be talked over with the hosts. It is possible to make own suitable meals. Farm has good wifi connection.

SITUATION

LocationKitse talu, Sagevere village, Tueri Parish, Jarva County. The farm is 127 km from Tallinn. Nearest cities are Viljandi, Paide and Poltsamaa. The town has few stores, cafe and all-seasons skating ring (https://www.valgusevabrik.ee/en/skating-rink/). Volunteers can visit large cities like Tartu, Tallinn, Parnu which are about 1,5h away by bus. Since hosts regularly visit nearby cities of Paide, Viljandi, Turi and Poltsamaa volunteers can join them. The nearest swimming place is 14 km away and hosts can take volunteers there. Those who are interested can join the host for fishing. The farm is surrounded by nature, so it is perfect for people who loves it and farm animals.

You have to be ready to adapt to the simple conditions of the common life in the country side of Estonia and be ready for farm work, which can be diverse yet physically demanding. However the minumum preffered period of stay is one month.Participation feeWe ask participants to contribute 100 Euros (regardless of the duration of stay) towards the costs of general administration. Volunteers live together family- style in homes lead by long term volunteers in the community. Each person has their own bedroom. All meals, and use of amenities (computer, wifi, toiletries, house phone, workshops) is included. We can insure drivers over 21 with a clean driving record to use our vehicles.

SITUATION

We live in the middle of a conservation area with hiking and biking trails, waterfalls and a pristine river to can and kayak. Our friendly small town offers shopping, coffee shops, parks, community theater, swimming pool, gym, basic amenities, and local festivals. Museums, concerts, theaters and events can be accessed an hour away in Minneapolis/St Paul. While there is no public transport, people over 21 with a clear driving record can often drive our vehicles and those who cant are offered rides and use of bikes for shorter distances. We make it possible for volunteers to camp, visit Chicago, Madison, Milwaukee, (4-7 hours away) and Lake Superior depending on their interest and enjoy connecting them to opportunities see more of the USA in and outside the tourist areas. Year-long volunteers can expect to have about 3 weeks of vacation offered through the year.
